The general public is beginning to take an interest in this again, asking about the yellow triangles on bank buildings, Civil Defense [where did it go?], fallout shelters, emergency supplies.

A common statement is like this: "I will be killed outright in the atomic blast, so why bother."

Upon further reflection, most would agree that they won't be killed outright in the atomic blast. So it comes down to how to cope with the aftermath whether you want to or not. You might have a basement fortress stocked to the rafters, but what about the hordes of armed primitives out to ransack everything they can reach for canned goods?

Safety and survival will depend on community unless you are planning to go jungle yourself. But the survival community is a problem since it mostly won't exist until quite a while after. The community we have now is not the survival community. We'll have to play it by ear.
