NYPOST September 30, 2001 -- Mark Green yesterday accused Fernando Ferrer of narrowly viewing the World Trade Center horror through "the lens of The Bronx," while the Rev. Al Sharpton slammed Mayor Giuliani for hogging too much credit for uniting the city, saying "Bozo" could have done as much. Two days after Green and Republican Michael Bloomberg accepted, and Ferrer rejected, Giuliani's pitch for a three-month term-extension, Sharpton - a major Ferrer booster - sharply criticized Giuliani for trying to stretch his term.
"We elected you mayor, not Messiah," Sharpton said at his Harlem headquarters during a rally attended by Ferrer.
"You didn't bring us together, our pain brought us together and our decency brought us together," Sharpton said.
He added, "We would have come together if Bozo was the mayor."
A spokesman for Ferrer, who has praised Giuliani's handling of the crisis, said later, "Although [Ferrer] would have chosen different words, he agrees that our city's unity" comes from New Yorkers' shared grief.
Giuliani wouldn't respond to Sharpton's jabs, which came hours before Green, who spent most of the mayoral race avoiding conflict, ripped into Ferrer, his Oct. 11 runoff foe.
Outside Brooklyn Borough Hall, Green said Ferrer has a "short-sighted" view of rebuilding more than 20 million square feet of lost office space.
"While I tried to show leadership by proposing big plans given this big crisis, I thought that the borough president of The Bronx reflected a business-as-usual and politics-as-usual attitude," said Green.
Green bashed Ferrer for "first comparing the unprecedented criminal attack on the trade center to - his word - the rubble' he inherited in The Bronx 14 years ago and by being largely silent on how he would respond to needs of reconstruction and security.
"The planes that attacked the World Trade Center did not attack The Bronx, with all due respect," Green added. "The Bronx of 14 years ago has very little to do with the crisis in downtown Manhattan, New York and the world now."
Green noted he has a plan for a reconstruction authority - and chided Ferrer for saying the city's financial center should be decentralized.
"I think we have to take not a narrow borough approach, seeing it through the lens of The Bronx," said Green.
Ferrer sought to keep the spotlight squarely on Giuliani, calling the mayor's plan "unprincipled" and charging Green ditched his promise not to go negative.
"What caused Mark to abandon his principles and break his word?" Ferrer said. "I think he thinks he has to say these things and do these things to win an election, and I think that's a shame."
Meanwhile, Giuliani insisted his term-extension bid is for the good of the city and not about politics. "When you have watched 10 or 12 of the people you really care about die, you've gone to as many funerals that I've gone to . . . you really don't care about political spin," he said.
/sarcasm
He does have a point, but instead of saying something simple and respectful to all concerned, he chose to belittle and insult. Unlike the mayor, Sharpton is incapable of rising to the occasion. He knows it, too.
But al sharpton is uniquely vibrant representative of the fruition of the democratic party's unspoken strategy to keep the masses dumbed down, victemized, and dependent on the nanny government (or in other words, money from the pockets of fellow hard working Americans who actually PAY taxes). No one looks, acts or sounds more stupid than ol al sharpton. Pretty cruel and shallow to compare Rudy's work to that of any clowns, but then, when you aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer, such conclusions seem deep.
Not necessarily, and even if New Yorkers did come together, they may not have done so in a positive fashion, coming together in fear and out of weakness, rather than strength and resolve
And without leadership, every large, diverse group that comes together will eventually fragment and fall apart.
That's where Rudy G shines the most. He is a leader, not a follower. He's willing to make and carry out executive decisions that are best for the group as a whole, regardless of the impact upon any particular member of the group. He has lead by example, walking among the dead and wounded, while remaining cool, calm, and collected despite the danger.
He has proven himself worthy of our trust over and over again.
He warned me that the modern day Black Raci$t Panther$ would be imploding post 9/11 with the flags and patriotism with their anti flag and American statements. Statements which are basically the Black Panther$ mantras of hate, recycled and uttered by today's hidden Black Panther$'s posing as firemen, teachers, and in other government type jobs!
As usual he was right on target. His other favorite saying is "Follow the money, to find the real criminals and agendas!" In our post 9/11 call, he said that following the money of the Arab terrorists in American would be illuminating and astounding re who has been bought out, like Ramsey Clark and his band of rent a mobbers!
His name is RUDY, not "Ruddy".
Mayor Giuliani has been performing incredibly well -- above and beyond any other NYC Mayor in recent history -- since the moment he took office in City Hall, not just during this recent tragedy.
Apparently you, Sharpton and many others have NOT seen Mayor Giuliani's recent appearances on television (he's been invited to speak on many shows, from Larry King Live to Saturday Night Live). Rudy always mentions that the credit for bringing the city together in coping with the September 11 tragedy belongs to the people of the City of New York. And he especially gives credit to the FDNY, NYPD, Port Authority Police Department, the NY Fire Commissioner, the NY Police Commissioner, EMTs and other rescue workers.
The horrible and very rich, vile arabs who ordered and masterminded the mass murder of 6,000 innocents, are involved in a world wide war of terrorism against democracy and any other religion besides their perverted to their needs, Islamic religion!
We are involved in a world wide struggle for the survival of democracy, the rule of law, and those who refuse to be a part of their perverted non religion! That perverted non-religion is their excuse to commit mass murder like on 9/11 and then dare to blame us!
His emotional address heralded a five-day debate on terrorism which should hear from 145 speakers.
He told delegates: "This vicious attack places in jeopardy the whole purpose of the United Nations.
"Terrorists deny the dignity of human life. Terrorism pray particularly on cultures and communities that practice openness, tolerance.
"Their targeting of innocent civilians mocks the efforts of those who seek to live together in peace as neighbours and defies the very notion of being a neighbour.
"Look at that destruction, that massive, senseless, cruel loss of human life and then I ask you to look in your hearts, and recognise that there is no room for neutrality on the issue of terrorism. You're either with civilization or with terrorists."
The debate is expected to focus primarily on a new international treaty to co-ordinate the campaign against terrorism.
The meetings come three days after the 15-nation Security Council adopted a sweeping resolution requiring all nations to crack down on terrorists and groups that help them.
Kofi Annan, UN Secretary-General said: "The task now is to build on that wave of human solidarity - to ensure that the momentum is not lost, to develop a broad, comprehensive and above all sustained strategy to combat terrorism and eradicate it from our world.
" This important meeting has a critical role to play in this. It must not be merely symbolic.
"It must signal the beginning of immediate, practical and far-reaching changes in the way this organisation and its member States act against terrorism."
ITN News, the broadcast, compared Giuliani to Churchill.
Sharpton has appeared nowhere in the British media.
Regards, Ivan
