Gulf Coast Freepers Rally 'Round the Flag at Patriot1's House (with Photos)
Newslady and Patriot1 | October 1, 2001 | Newslady

Posted on 10/01/2001 3:20:55 AM PDT by newslady

American flags were everywhere, and red, white, and blue were the colors of the day at Patriot1’s house in Metairie, LA (a suburb of the Big Easy) for the Gulf Coast Freeper get together.

Approximately 40 patriots sang patriotic songs, reminisced and watched videos about past Freeper activities, and enjoyed the top-notch entertainment provided by JR and the Freepettes, while feasting on a large variety of delicious food.

Patriot1 adorned her fence with 16 posters filled with photos from past Freeper and patriotic activities, as well as printouts of articles from FreeRepublic.com concerning these activities. She also displayed Freeper memorabilia from the March for Justice (October 31, 1998), the Judgment Day Rally (December 5, 1998), the House Managers Dinner (May 5, 1999), and the Free Republic Count the White House Silverware Inaugural Ball (January 20, 2000). There were also lots of photos from the Gulf Coast Chapter Freep of Bill Clinton at the Oracle AppsWorld Convention in New Orleans on February 19, 2001.

Photos were also on display from two patriotic rallies organized by Patriot1 and newslady. The first rally was held on December 4th, 2000, before the presidential election and been decided, and was intended to show support for George W. Bush; the second rally was a victory rally held on December 16, 2000, after Dubya had been declared the winner of the election. In addition to the “wall” of posters, Patriot1 also had scrapbooks with lots of photos. Patriot1and I had a ball reminiscing about the patriotic activities chronicled in the posters and pointing out the photos of particular interest.

Before the entertainment started, we all sang the Star Spangled Banner, after which newslady said a few words about the act of terrorism that occurred on Sepember 11th and the patriotism being shown by Freepers who organize pro-American rallies whenever the pro-terrorists plan their protests. All of the patriots in attendance were united in support of the actions which are being taken by the Bush administration in the war on terror.

Since the defeat of Mary Landrieu in the 2002 Senatorial election is one of the highest priories of the GCC, the entertainment included a rendition by JR and the Freepettes of a song to the tune of “Proud Mary,” but which we called “Not So Proud Mary.” The words were borrowed from the Defeat Proud Mary Landrieu web site. Everyone joined in the chorus, “Stolen, stolen, stolen the election.” JR also performed an original Bill Clinton parody entitled, “Trolling in the White House,” also to the tune of Proud Mary, which was hilarious. The next item on the program was an original musical parody about Janet Reno to the tune of LaBamba, with the Freepettes again performing the background to JR. He ended with another original musical parody about Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky to the tune of “He Cheated, He Lied.,” which JR said was very easy to adapt. Ha! The guests showed their appreciation to JR with a thunderous ovation. By the way, JR is actually the brother of Patriot1 and newslady, and the Freepettes were none other than Patriot1 and newslady.

Blam won the award for the Freeper who traveled the farthest, since he drove in all the way from Mobile.

Other Freepers came from far and wide—SAS-MS drove in from Missisisipi with her kiddie Freepers, as did Gulfcoast6 with his daughter and darling granddaughter. We need to apologize to Gulfcoast6 for forgetting to serve the pies which he brought. They were dynamite and were devoured by Patriot1 and newslady’s families after everyone left. No, we didn’t forget to serve them on purpose. Ha! SAS-MS appropriately brought an American flag cake, which made a big hit. Many thanks to her for the disc of photos of our Freeper social which she gave to Patriot1. AmericanMom1 came with her two patriotic kiddie Freepers, who led the singing of various patriotic songs.

Romulus also made a big hit with his delicious cajun jambalaya, BayouLinda and BayouLeo came with one of their kiddie Freepers, who was a star of one of the videos which was shown of an anti-Clinton protest in November, 1998. BayouLeo was kept busy taking photos with Patriot1’s digital camera, and we want to give him a big thank you for helping. The outspoken MawMawQueen and hubby were great, as usual. We had a great time reliving with them our Freep of Bill Clinton earlier in the year. It was great to Slee and hubby again. They both had great signs at our pro-Bush rally in the beginning of December of last year. Patriot1 and I had a great time reminiscing with Slee about the Judgment Day Rally, which we all attended. It was also great to meet Jamaly and hubby. We loved the story of her screen name, which is derived from “Jesus and Mama Always Love You.” TerryO, hubby, and her two kiddie Freepers were also a welcome addition to the crowd. We were glad to have Omegatoo join us—she was a delight and is a real patriot. After listening to “God Bless America” by Kate Smith, GramdaM and FeFe were overcome by patriotism, since they had not heard Kate Smith in a long time. A number of lurkers and wannabe Freepers also attended, including Bea, Jean, Bev, and Ken. A big thank you also to Hiker1 for helping us with our flags and coming up with the great idea of our “wall” of posters.

Here are few a group photos. Other photos can be observed by clicking on the link.

We had so much food that the leftovers will be enough to feed Patriot1 and my families for a week. Forgive me for not crediting everyone for their food contributions, because I didn’t keep track. But we had brisket, ham, baked beans, potato salad, potatoes au gratin, several salads, lots of hors d'oeuvres, lots of deserts, etc., etc., etc.

For those who are interested, here are links to other photos of the event.

It was a wonderful afternoon, filled with good food, good company, good entertainment, and fervent patriotism, and everyone appreciated this escape from the horrendous events of two weeks ago.

We're gearing up to defeat brown roots, but we need a viable candidate. Help!

Cooksey really did mess that up didn't he? I don't know much about S. Terrell. Is she up to it?

I still love Vitter, but he said several months ago his wife would kill him.

I'm afraid that Cooksey is dead meat. He has a very conservative voting record, so it is really unfortunate that he put his "foot in his mouth." Susie Terrell is not as conservative as Cooksey. She did win a statewide office, Elections Commissioner (which she pledged to have abolished). She does not have as much experience as Cooksey. Terrell was on the New Orleans City Council. (I moved back to Louisiana four years ago, so am not really familiar with the long term aspects of her political career.) She is a woman, so could compete with "not so proud Mary" for the women's vote. (Unfortunately, there are Republican women whom I know who will often vote for a democrat woman over a Republican man. How sad!!)

I love Vitter also, but I suspect he won't contemplate any other office until he has a few more terms under his belt. Tauzin would be good, but he won't even consider it. If Suzie Terrell runs, I will get behind her 100%. She does have some pluses, primarily that she's a Republican, and she says she's a conservative. Also and most importantly, she's not Mary Landrieu!

Of course, the Sept. 11th atrocity put a damper on the travel plans of many people.

7,000 lives within one hour. I just can't get over this.

But looks like your event was a hit. Your wall of pictures must have been interesting - dating back to 98. Did I see a new freeper, Hiker1? Does he post? Is your brother JR? Is he a freeper? Your house looks lovely and I know you made everyone feel at home.

Looking forward to the cruise, less than two weeks and counting.

P.S. Orlando Sanchez is running for Mayor. Bet the fraud machinery will be out, big time.

Grace, my brother JR is a lurker. Hiker1 is a new FReeper.

By the way, who is going to run for Phil Gramm's senate seat? Someone good, I hope. I was disappointed when Gramm announced his retirement. We MUST keep the senate seat in Republican hands.

We certainly want to defeat "brown roots," Unproud Mary Landrieu in the Louisiana senate race next year. As you can see if you read some of the responses, we are unsure as to which Republican to support. I am afraid that liberal Mary Landrieu is going to be hard to beat, this even though you remember how she stole the election in '96. We both watched the Senate hearings where Woody Jenkins presented conclusive evidence of voter fraud, and to no avail. The Senate approved Landrieu.

Hey, bigeasy, we missed you. Too bad you had to fly to DC while we were partying. What a bummer. You really missed a lot of fun. Patriot1 and I are still savoring every moment of the event, and reliving the great time we had. Hope you have a safe trip home.

Blam, I was really disappointed that you didn't stay over at my house on Sunday night with my husband and me. I had hoped to take you out to breakfast on Monday morning. The best deal in town is a terrific breakfast buffet at the Treasure Chest with custom omelets and every breakfast item that you can think of. All this and a beautiful view of Lake Pontchartrain! Since you didn't stay, my husband didn't take me out for breakfast - not that I needed to eat any more after all the food that we all consumed on Sunday.

Sorry, I just got 'antsy' to get back to these woods of mine. Plus, I think the older I get, the more of a hermit I become. I really do appreciate the offer and he fine hospitality though.

Why doesn't Woody Jenkins run again?

It's very confusing here in Texas. All I know is that AG John Cornyn just announced that he's running. On the Democrat side, Austin mayor Kurt Watson may run. The politicians are playing musical chairs.

Woody Jenkins has baggage. It is my understanding (since I was not living in Louisiana in 1996 when Landrieu stole the election) that Woody owed his berth in the runoff to the peculiarity of the open primary in Louisiana. In order to assure that two democrats don't make the runoff, the Republicans try to settle on one Republican who seems to have the best chance. There were problems with Woody, but Republicans and conservatives decided to rally around him in the open primary. Of course, he actually won, but voter fraud delivered the election to "brown roots."

As far as I know, no one even suggests Woody as a candidate. At this time, I am sort of hoping that Susie Terrell will run even though I have already contributed to Cooksey's campaign. I prefer Cooksey's politics, but I think that the negative publicity surrounding his remark has ruined electability.

Thanks for thinking about me. I regretted not being there. I find it interesting that Reagan National is opening on Thursday. These liberals can really make things inconvenient.

The pics look great. It sounds like everyone had a great time.
