Honor guard harassed at Arena (repost: Dems spit on police)
Albany Times Union | 5/18/2000 | BRENDAN LYONS

Posted on 09/30/2001 3:36:57 PM PDT by TomB

Albany (original date 5/19/00)-- Police unit was spit at and called names as they carried flags at Democratic convention Members of the Albany Police Department Honor Guard were harassed and spit on by a few people as they carried flags into Tuesday's Democratic state convention at Pepsi Arena, officials said.

"This was probably a very small minority in a sea of legitimate Democratic Party members,'' said Albany Police Chief John C. Nielsen. "It's probably going to send the wrong message about what was in fact an overwhelmingly peaceful, law-abiding and respectful group.''

President Bill Clinton attended the ceremony as state Democrats unanimously nominated Hillary Rodham Clinton as their U.S. Senate candidate.

The five-member honor guard, which is made up of Albany police officers, told authorities that some people in the crowd of 11,500 Democratic supporters called them "Nazis'' and "members of (New York City Mayor Rudolph) Giuliani's 'Third Reich.' ''

The harassment took place as the officers entered the arena around 5:45 p.m. in front of the Albany Police Department Pipes & Bags band.

The honor guard were in full-dress uniform and carrying the American flag, said Detective Thomas McGraw, president of the Albany Police Officers Union.

"We are very upset,'' McGraw said. "The honor guard were asked to act as ambassadors to the city of Albany. They were invited guests and they were volunteering their time.''

The incidents allegedly took place on the floor of the arena, where only delegates carrying passes were allowed access, officials said.

Mayor Jerry Jennings blasted those responsible.

"I'd love to identify these individuals,'' Jennings said. "It's unfortunate there are people who don't know how to act. It's behavior I find reprehensible.''

Is it too slow a news day for you?

I think I'll dig up that story about the woman who told Clinton "You killed those boys."

May as well waste more bandwidth.

With everyone running around calling the police and firemen in New York heroes, I just thought this might be worth REPOSTING, hence the word REPOST in the title. If you didn't want to read a REPOST, why did you read it?

By replying, aren't you wasting even more bandwidth?

Seriously, with everybody, including Hillary, running around pating themselves on the back for supporting the NYC police and firemen, isn't this worth bringing up?

In the title: (repost: Dems spit on police)

In the keywords: NEVER LET THEM FORGET THIS!

In the 'published' space: 5/18/00

In the body of the article (in RED): (original date 5/19/00)

At the end of the article: Just thought I'd repost this...

If you really think I "suckered" you into thinking this was a current article, you need to start reading things just a BIT more closely.

I must say that when I stumbled across this article this afternoon, and I recalled the shocking treatment the police go at the NY Dem Convention, I thought it would be worthwhile to remind everyone.

I don't know what is more disturbing, that people don't find this relevant, or that people actually didn't see that it was a REPOST.

YIKES!

NP. It struck me when I saw the article this afternoon that it had not been discussed after the attacks, I thought it would be interesting.

I guess not.

Good repost. If I recall correctly the demsdim who harassed the police were mainly from the NYC contingents. The next repost should be citing the demsdim comments on the Diallo police aquittal.
Incidentally were all the terrorist pardoned by the Clingtons accounted for re the WTC?
Last comment: Dole is an insufferable political as is Clington as is McCain.

A similar post from a few days ago:

Hillary Clinton's hatred of Police: Trained Pigs story

We must remember what Hillary Clinton really thinks of the police.

Hillary needs to be freed. We need people to Freep Capitol Hill and her offices in New York to let people know that of her hatred of police, and how she "used" the police in pretending to like them after the terrorist attack of September 11.

This is worth a reminder. People were shocked and stunned into patriotism, for a time, but true colors will return in due course (sad to say).
