Bin Laden Family Could Profit From a Jump In Defense Spending Due to Ties to U.S. Bank

If the U.S. boosts defense spending in its quest to stop Osama bin Laden's alleged terrorist activities, there may be one unexpected beneficiary: Mr. bin Laden's family.

Among its far-flung business interests, the well-heeled Saudi Arabian clan -- which says it is estranged from Osama -- is an investor in a fund established by Carlyle Group, a well-connected Washington merchant bank specializing in buyouts of defense and aerospace companies.

reacted with disbelief to The Wall Street Journal report of yesterday that George H.W. Bush, the father of President Bush, works for the bin Laden family business in Saudi Arabia through the Carlyle Group, an international consulting firm

Larry Klayman pretty much lied about the article in The Wall Street Journal.

Klayman pretty much nailed it.

Get with the program, Inspector?! Klayman nailed nothing, except possibly his tush! Not this time! If you can't read the entire thread before posting such an anal summary, I really don't much care about your opinion.

Wow. Still have a headache!! I don't quite understand why Askel feels the need to use six-syllable, obscure (to most) words that start with "x" or "z," when a simpler word would suffice?! Am I supposed to feel intimidated by that? LOL! Hardly. I haven't run across a single word that I had to run and look up. I was taught, as both a journalist and freelance nonfiction writer, to always use a simpler word over a polysyllabic nightmare. The only reason people use those humongous, "where's my Webster's" words is to show off. Honest to God -- it is a rule in writing! I did not make it up.

Oy vay! Give me a break! I was spelling words such as "antidisestablishmentarianism" when I was in the 6th grade! (And you have to know what they mean; I was a "spelling bee champ!" "Oooohhhhhhh!" LOL!)

AAcckkkk!! How did I wind up back here?! ;-}

"Out, out, damn Spot!"

Awwwwww!! Okay, Spot; you can stay! And I'm sorry I cursed at you. (Cute little devil, huh?!)

I'm gone!! ;-}

As for "moral authority", I will reconsider granting same to the President of the United States

For the eightieth time, put a sock in it already. You do not have the power to grant moral authority.

Good grief, you have got to be the most pretentious, arrogant, self-righteous poster on the forum.

As I have said in reply to your posts more than once, ICK.

How can you stand yourself?

You do not have the power to grant moral authority.

Pssst ... by "grant moral authority", I mean that I -- myself -- will not recognize as a Moral Authority someone whose stand is so clearly contrary to God's law and the principles of our founding document, the Declaration of Independence.

What rational human being fails to understand the inherent injustice in deeming some human lives CREATED for the womb of the highest bidder and other human lives CREATED for research and profit?

A decision like that evidences only the most tortured of reasoning and an utter muddle where the conscience is supposed to be. If Bush himself believes what he said on behalf of our Federal Government, Bush himself is just as devoid of Moral Authority as our Federal Government.

(Now, if tomorrow both Bush and the government decided to pull a 180 and actually abide by the "self-evident" truths of our Declaration, I would immediately recognize their moral authority! Ever hopeful!)

As it happens, only those who RECOGNIZE and ABIDE BY moral authority can be deemed to have and exercise same in kind.

Does that clear it up for you? I can't help the fact others are impressed by his use of Scripture and can rationalize somehow his being just or moral when he so clearly misses the boat on Human Life.

I'm just not that way. Human life is a black and white issue for me every bit as crystal clear as the concepts ALIVE or DEAD.

I am under no illusions that my decisions in this regard have any bearing on your Choice to grant Bush and our Federal Government moral authority in all issues, some issues or just those issues in which they make clear that -- because they would NOT FORCE MORALITY ON ANYONE -- they have made some compromise or another.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

Perhaps it is time to upgrade to The Constitution.

"Mr. Klayman happens to be an acquaintance of mine, and I happen to like him."

Good then, this can be settled.

I'll go back to a post by Howlin

A Carlyle executive said the bin Laden family committed $2 million through a London investment arm in 1995 in Carlyle Partners II Fund, which raised $1.3 billion overall. The fund has purchased several aerospace companies among 29 deals. So far, the family has received $1.3 million back in completed investments and should ultimately realize a 40% annualized rate of return, the Carlyle executive said.

Now, am I missing something here, or is the above statement from The Wall Street Journal QUITE DIFFERENT FROM WHAT LARRY SAID:

The Wall Street Journal report of yesterday that George H.W. Bush, the father of President Bush, works for the bin Laden family business in Saudi Arabia through the Carlyle Group, an international consulting firm.

Now, all you have to do is ask your friend Larry why he lied.

OK - so the rest of the Declaration is "pap".

And the parts of the Constitution we don't like are "pap", also.

Not necessarily.

In fact, I think your excerpt points up quite well the phenomenon we're seeing at present wherein some "merciless Indians" (or "merciless Islamic radicals") by their admittedly savage and merciless acts of self defense (as far as they were concerned) warrant somehow the perceiving of ALL Indians (or Muslims) as savages and inhuman dogs worthy of the speediest extinction possible.

I can understand how such things happen.
(Particularly the part wherein "civilized" folks don't tend to think their actions should be judged as in any way contributing to the inevitable backlash of human beings whose rights or lives have been irrevocably mitigated or marginalized ... "for their own good".)
But it doesn't make it just ... even if, to this day, we're only human and can't help but gloss over our own sins even as we seek vengeance for those of others.

Perhaps if the United States had not meddled so consistently on the part of the ruling elite and dictators in the Middle East, those Muslims truly faithful to the Shari'ah and the practice of shura would have had some chance to establish a more democratic state. Such a state might have made demands or required considerations for ALL PEOPLE that despots or ruling elite did not. It was probably a convenience on our part (and an accomodation of the oil corporations most interested in the Middle East) that we didn't go this route. Our mistake.

We backed and trained folks like Osama bin Laden. Bummer.

I guess it remains to be seen whether or not we can mow down Muslims with the ease we slaughtered Indians. Could be that "radical Islam" is not so much fundamentalist as well-connected with the Usual Suspects where Terror and Repression are concerned and we've bit off more than we care to chew.

Nice pullback from "the DOI is the word of God!" Perhaps it's not so perfect, and it was written by a man enmeshed in War.

We backed and trained folks like Osama bin Laden. Bummer.

And we funded the Soviets to fight the Nazis. In retrospect, that was a bad idea, no?

To: Senator Pardek ... (thanks for the "in"!!)
First of all, I don't think you could possibly construe my citing of the Declaration AND the natural moral law (God's moral law) as one and the same. The Declaration only went so far.

Second ... AND I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU LEFT ME THIS "IN" ON THIS THREAD!!!! ... many of our actions in World War II were either the "lesser of two evils" or an actual evil ...

ESPECIALLY WHERE THE PROFITING OF SOME ON TRAGEDY AND INJUSTICE WERE CONCERNED:

1942 On October 24th, US Government orders the seizure of Nazi German banking operations in New York City which were conducted by Prescott Bush. Under the Trading With the Enemy Act, the government takes over Union Banking Corporation, of which Bush is a director. On October 28th, the government seizes two Nazi front organizations run by the Bush-Harriman bank: the Holland-American Trading Corporation and the Seamless Steel Equipment Corporation. In November, Nazi interests in the Silesian-American Corp are seized. Nazi US partners are left to carry on business. The order to seize the bank is quietly published in government records and kept out of the public media.

Dark Shadows of German Industry

You done good, Senator. Thank you kindly.

Why Askel, I do believe you have been avoiding me in all my recent posts to you?! What happened? I began to make sense and you had no cute retort to throw back in my face? Or, even if I didn't make complete sense to you, could it be that I made a valid point or two? Hmmmmm?? Hate it for ya!!

Now, this "bidness" about the USA slaughtering innocent Muslims and annihilating the entire Islamic population -- you are not serious?! You cannot possibly be serious?! Have you been sitting in on top secret Pentagon briefings, and nobody told us about it?! How -- in the name of all that's holy -- do you think you can read President Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, and Condi Rice's minds?! Hellooooooo?!!! Nobody knows what their strategy is, except those who need to know. Prez Bush is not bulldozing down the Islamic peoples like Clintoon is bulldozing the Blacks' historical landmark on the grounds of his bloody library! He bulldozes the first existing Blacks' historical landmark in the state of AR, and the Demwit party and Black Caucus still kiss his EX-presidential hiney! What is wrong with this picture?!

Oh yeah, I forgot. You had a half-litre (European spelling -- intentional) of Stolichnaya earlier. Is it still there?? (Just curious!) You could make yourself a Fuzzy Navel! (Used to tend bar too!) Then, when you're fuzzy, you could get your navel pierced like all the Peacenik Commie demonstrators! Wouldn't that be special??

Just kidding with ya, Askel! Can't you see the humor in that?? Come on -- laugh! It's a funny concept!! Really! You and your fuzzy, pierced navel, demonstrating the evil USA-driven slaughter that no one knows about!! (Maybe you could get a dead cow and wave its carcass on the end of a broom handle?!) Or -- maybe if you flashed the media your belly button, they could get a shot of that on the news?? (A shot?? As in a shot of liquor?!) Wheeeeee, I'm on a humor roll here!! (~So pour me another tequila~ . . . ~Jose Cuervo, you are a friend of mine~ . . . . ) If you're sunbathing, pour a little Stoli in your belly button and let it simmer for later! *G*

Ya know you love me, Askel! You harangued me for not making any valid points earlier. Now that I am, you don't like me anymore?? (Waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!)

::::::Running off to find the tissues!::::::

;-}

You're welcome, Askel. But I'll leave behind the Vatican's well documented love of Jews in Europe during the 30's and 40's and leave you with this Gorbachev calls the pope the 'most important socialist in the world'

Uh, yeah ... that was it. You began to make sense.

Addled by the Stoli I offered to share with Mercuria (some 2,000 miles away), I guess I just couldn't keep up.

Chalk this round up to you, dear. Cheers!
