Who's War is This? (Pat Buchanan)

Edited on 04/13/2004 1:38:24 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

In his resolve to hunt down and kill the Osama bin Laden terrorists he says committed the Sept. 11 massacres, President Bush has behind him a nation more unified than it has been since Pearl Harbor. But now Bush has been put on notice that this war cannot end with the head of bin Laden and the overthrow of the Taliban.

Hate to say it, but Pat makes some good points. This is a National Defense issue and we should guard against it being hijacked (pun intended) by those with their own agendas.

Actually, Pat makes no good points at all. His relatively recent dislike of Israel aside (he used to be pro Israel), Iraq or some other Arab state probably did this.

It's ridiculous to believe Osama Bin Laden could do this sophisticated operation by himself. And as for the "moderate" Arab states giving support to the U.S. --even Bin Laden says he didn't do this.

Pat's article shows he has no appreciation of the Islamic threat to the west when he dismisses Richard Perle's suggestions as fighting "Israel's war."

When the gulf war happened in 1991, he and Joe Sobran blamed Israel for that one, claiming the Jews were sending American boys to fight their war (it was really fought for Kuwait and U.S. oil needs).

One has to wonder who's manipulating whom when even CNN assumes the mantle of Christian Militantism.

Guess Pat thinks if we only go to war with Israel all will be well. Vintage Pat, IMHO

Bin Laden always denies specific actions, but congratulates those who performed them.

Who's War is This? (Pat Buchanan)

Where did this headline come from? "Who is war is this?"

To show your patriotism, learn our language. Who's going to look up "whose" in the dictionary?

Did you fellas see this ? Absurd posting from the blind haters of Buchanan club aside, (even though he's supporting their wunderkinder) the problem with the broader war is defined as clearly here as it has been anywhere. My emotions for a broader war have ebbed over the past weeks, and Pat, as usual, is right. It's easy to know where to stand when Kristol and Bennet are in one of two lines.

Buchanan's got it just right. Those who advocate going after everyone we (or the Israelis) have a beef with will only increase the terrorist threat. Past indiscriminate bombing has created more terrorists than it's killed. This is a time to ensure we carefully target those responsible and accept the fact that we'll get them a few at a time. Any other approach expands and escaltates the violence - exactly what the terrorists are seeking. We should approach this surgery with our brains and a scalpel, using a chain saw and a blindfold does more harm than good.

Hhahaha ! Good one. If freedom from typos and spelling errors was the sign of a patriot, I'm afraid this board would be very lacking of contributors. But come back when you care to discuss the content.

Besides, isn't it "Diogenes"? ;-P

How do you draw the line between "Al-Queda", "Hamas", and "Hezbollah"?

Do you and Pat think these are compartmentalized? Don't you think it is a multi-headed hydra terrorist organization?

Don't you think it is time to annihilate these monsters totally and thoroughly forever?

Thankfully, Pat isn't making national policy now. (nor are any libertarians or Paleo-Conservatives)!

Pat is right. To turn this into a war against Syria, Iran, Iraq and Lybia is insanity.

"It's ridiculous to believe Osama Bin Laden could do this sophisticated operation by himself."

Osama bin Laden may well be conducting a private enterprise. A lot of conservatives claim that private enterprise is much more efficient than government. Why is it so hard to believe that a private enterprise could have done this when one has such faith in private enterprise?

I'm not saying a government wasn't involved, what I'm saying is that it is possible this is a private enterprise.

Anyway I'm still waiting for the evidence that Osama is really behind this. I have yet to see it. I don't think I can support an invasion of Afghanistan if I don't have any credible evidence that Osama had anything to do with this.

"Al-Queda" = "Hamas" = "Hezbollah" = "Death to America"

Which part of this equation do you, and Pat, not get?

"The final decision Bush makes will be as historically crucial as Truman's decision to let MacArthur advance to the Yalu, and FDR's decision to hold up Eisenhower's armies and let Stalin take Berlin."

Umm... "FDR's decision to hold up Eisenhower's armies"??? Did I miss somthing in history ???
