What's going on with the fonts?
Posted on 09/27/2001 3:52:09 PM PDT by steveegg
What happened to the fonts around here? Seems when I look at responses, things are blockquoted and in an odd font.

Give me a moment to look through Internut Exploder (glad you didn't say Nutscape 6-VBG). Be right back with an answer.

Pull up one of the real old pages and show folks how we've progressed :o)

How did you do that?

If you are using Internet Explorer,
here is something you need to have - it allows you to highlight any part of a web page and view partial source for that section only. Gives you a new option in your right click menu to view the partial source.
That way you can see what fonts and other attributes were used. Very handy for copying stuff from other sources and then pasting here (or elsewhere) in it's original formatting. Or just learning how they did it.

It's the last last item on this page.

Clue me this: How come when I click on "Topics/Post", and want to access, for example, "Political Humor", I get a list of all articles - not just the humor ones? Hmmmm?

Here goes:
For the pages that don't specify a font (like FR currently):
-Open the Internet Options under the Tools Menu
-Click on the Fonts button
-Set the font for the web page font
For pages that do specify a font (like FR about 6 o'clock), I can't find a way that IE 6 overrides it.
One more thing; try hitting Refresh while you hold the shift button; that should force a full reload of the page.

Pull up one of the real old pages and show folks how we've progressed :o) We're conservatives. We don't want to progress.

Not sure *what* to make of it.... guess that's why weird things have been happening when I use "view partial source" to copy a page.... which was how I was working around the iframe src= command being disabled. My 2 cents....
My typeface is still weird, FWIW, and too big.
A further gripe- different forums using UBB, html, modified html, etc.-- too many different things to remember. I quit posting on Free Dominion because html that works here turns strange over there.

Ditto. Font is readable but a little too large.

Try out this old thread if you really want to appreciate what we have now It looks better than the monkey font we got going on here.
To: ouroboros
It looks better than the monkey font we got going on here. I have my browser set to display a font I like, so I don't even see a change on this page from the earlier one.
To: afraidfortherepublic
afraidfortherepublic, Hey, I sent you a fairly long message about fonts, colors, and how to manipulate them. I believe the name of the font I used was "modern" but you would have to check the message I sent.
To: Sidebar Moderator
How do you do that?
To: steveegg
I tried all your suggestions and it didn't change anything. I guess I'll just have to get used to it, but thanks for the lesson.
To: ouroboros
Go to the preferences menu on your browser. There should be options to specify fonts and whether to use your choice or the displayed page defaults. Warning, it can cause you grief on other web pages.
To: Sidebar Moderator
Fonts? We don't need no stinkin' fonts <VBG> John got rid of the specified font in the CSS, so that's back to normal (Times New Roman in my Nutscape 4.77 window and Arial in my Internut Exploder 6.1 window)
