A couple of days after the attack I was telling my freind that the question our leaders must first answer, is whether or not such a thing as "moderate" Islam exists or not.

If it does not, then the situation is clear.

If it does, then the long term solution must come from moderate Islam itself.

It is the failure of this "moderate" Islam to control and educate members of its own house. We cannot do that job for them. All we can do is defend ourselves.

I have grave doubts about whether Islam can truly co-exist non violently with its neighbors.

You express the fear many have regarding Islam, but the co-existence for hundreds of yearsin peace at times shows the Moslem faith can co-exist now also.

But if any doubt that the Muslim world is under attack from these fanatic bastards, try this story on for size.

Perhaps a good way to understand this situation is to compare it to the heavy presence of liebrals and their leftist perspective in out college and university system. The clerics now directing the mosques are products of radical instruction from the institutions that generate Moslem clerics. The people frequenting the Mosques are not necessarily so radical, but the clerics appear to be more radical than moderate.
