Forgive me, in three years this is my vainest vanity by far.
First, the bottom-line; then, the pointless exposition.
The bottom-line is that I need input from you geniuses about:
- The best FREE host to which I can move the Biblical Christianity web page
- How to bounce people over there from a now-defunct address
- How to manage the simplest address for the site
- How to get the search-engine listings corrected
- Suggestions for a new, cheap or free ISP
- Anything else you think I should know (on this subject, that is)
Now, the pointless exposition. Creating, putting up and ftp-ing my web page was one of the nastiest headaches I'd ever had. First it was on Geocities, with the slow loading and the eighty-seven character URL. Then we went over to jps.net, which was a nice short URL -- and which has been taken over by another company which was taken over by EarthLink, who is too expensive and too complicated, and which we plan to LEAVE.
So I evidently let the deadline slide (gee, I've never done THAT before), and I need to do something ASAP. And I know we have a repository of solid-gold, simmering IT genius here.
And I hope three years of restraint have earned me one self-indulgent vanity.
Thanks in advance.
Dan

Pay $35 a year for a domain name.
Spend $8.95 per month to have it hosted. (www.icom.com)
For about 10 bucks a month your problem is solved.

That actually looks pretty cool. Have you used it very long? Is it reliable, fast? How about the ads -- I see gambling, I think, which someone already objected to in my message board. Anything objectionable that you know of?
Thanks again!

Well ... I can honestly say I don't see all the ads. When I signed on I indicated that it would be a "family" site. If I were you and was really intersted, I would insert a horizontal line at the end of every page and put a disclaimer saying you don't endorse any advertiser. OR... you could simply put in a lot of line spaces so the ads will be far below the text of your site. Most guests wouldn't even see the ads.
I have found the site to be fast and reliable. It's one of the better ones in that regard.

Here's my suggestion, Dan: Allow some of your brothers and sisters in the Lord to assist with more than technical advice. God knows the net is surfeited with sleaze. I'd be most grateful to help keep a good and godly site up and running.
How to do that most expeditiously? I don't know, but I'm sure someone else does.
Bryan, could the volley-flag network be of assistance here?

A post can't convey tone of voice, or you'd hear how touched and surprised I am by the suggestion. God bless you for being so generous; this read fast, but the words are stammering off my fingers.
I have found a home at least temporarily, thanks to Yellow Rose. It seemed as if the simplest and least obtrusive is CybCity.
So for now you can reach the web site which I'm still cobbling back together, updating the tags at http://www.cybcity.com/bibchr/. I like best the idea of a simple URL, and my own site, but I want to make sure it's accessible at least in the interim.
Thank you, and God bless you!
