This scumbag traitor should've gotten the boot the first day.

I was simply being at the moment an incredibly insensitive and unthinking jerk. Time will tell if it was really "at the moment."
To: kattracks
If they don't kick him out, maybe they should just kick his A$$!! Just a thought.....

Doesn't UNM have a branch college in Kabul? He could teach history there!

Where is the Free speech clause in the 1st Amendment. It seems if the government doesn't like the content of your speech you do not get to pass go you will go directly to JAIL!It's funny how government passes all types of unconstitutional laws and programs and then turns on people when this type of speech is used.Americans seem to talk the talk but they don't walk the walk in regards to their RIGHTS.

Can someone explain the intersection of free speech and treason? Was Hanoi Jane ever charged with anything for her actions?

``It is the inclination of my personality to deal with shocking events by making light of them,'' he wrote. ``I was simply being at the moment an incredibly insensitive and unthinking jerk.''
Liberal coward - hiding in academia - cannot even stand up to his words.
'Free Speech' should not be stretched to cover words/acts of treason.

This response is insufficient. It ignores the systemic problems:
This guy is clearly an unqualified idiot, no matter how many degrees he has. What is wrong with this university's hiring process that it hires such idiots?
Why should the taxpayers be paying the salary of this guy or of the university administration that hired him?
If politicians say "This is a really good reason to reevaluate funding levels for the entire system," I betch the university rolls over right quick.
Freedom of speech guarantees this guys right to say whatever he wants - it does not give him the right to be supported by the taxpayer while he does so.

Proffessor soon to be on the way to the pen, to meet felons who are there for various crimes, who are probably upset by the terrorist acts and don't dig this kind of nimrod.
Professor = dead meat and or fresh meat .
Justice is a good thing.
Cheese.

I think that is a better title.

More to the point, Jackson's intentions of meeting with the Taliban are directly undermining Bush's authority and intentions. Everyone talks about punishing treason, but has it been applied to civilians?
To: kattracks
send him to Cuba on a raft.
To: taxtruth
I don't think he should be charged with anything...just exposed!

In my opinion, it's time to clean the communists out of academia. How long can our Republic endure if our young people are fed a constant diet of anti-American propaganda? The vast majority of our teachers and professors have abrogated their responsibility, and the NEA has much to answer for.

Sorry, but treason is defined in the Constitution, and he most assuredly committed it.
But your rush to defend this piece of filth is noteworthy. Giving aid and comfort to traitors is treason as well.

It seems if the government doesn't like the content of your speech you do not get to pass go you will go directly to JAIL! It is all of New Mexico (except for a few radicals) who didnt like what he said. The guy should have been fired immediately. His statements were treasonous during war-time, and there were more than two witnesses who could testify against him. The government should not force students to put up with treasonous lectures by radical leftist history professors who hate this country.
The 1st Amendment just says that Congress (the federal congress) shall make no laws abridging the freedom of speech, and regarding that professor, no federal law has been made that abridges his freedom of speech. The 9th And 10th Amendments allows the people and the States to kick idiot professors out of their jobs. If he wants to go on a street corner and speak treasonous statements as a private citizen, he is still free to do so.
And if you dont like our country, you can leave it.
