Plans Announced for D.C. Chapter's Operation Infinite FReep 9/29/01 (Thread #3)

Plans for Operation Infinite FReep:

We will be meeting at the Navy Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets, N.W. (behind the National Archives) between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

After 10 a.m. we will break into small groups and peacefully greet the leftists from a respectful distance (to avoid conflict) as they arrive at Freedom Plaza for their late morning rally.

A small contingent will stay behind at the Navy Memorial out of respect for the sailors at sea for Operation Enduring Freedom for the duration of the leftist's march down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol. The rest of us will stand on the sidewalk along the avenue and express our opinion of the passing parade :-) until 4 p.m. or later.

Please bring as many patriotic Americans as wish to come, just make sure they understand the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting as they will be rigorously enforced.

Edited text of the original announcement:

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing to join us this Saturday, September 29, in Washington, D.C. for Operation Infinite Freep.

Our purpose will be to show support for our troops, President Bush, the families and victims of the recent terrorist attacks, and the United States.

We will do this by acting as a counter to the so-called peacenik (in reality, anti-American) rally and march scheduled for that day in D.C.

We will do so peacefully and lawfully, if you do not think you can control yourself in this trying time, please stay home. The leftist yahoos would love nothing better than to have images in the news of fights and skirmishes so they could portray themselves as pious victims even as they provoke hostilities.

The D.C. Chapter has a long and distinguished record of peaceful, law-abiding--but passionate--protesting and we will not allow it to be tarnished. Anyone on our side who cannot abide by the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will not be allowed to stand with us.

The rules are simple: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no threats, no provocations and no lawbreaking. All law enforcement officers must be treated with respect. Do not disrupt traffic in the streets or impede pedestrians on sidewalks or at crosswalks.

There will be plenty of LEOs on the scene because of the well-earned reputation of the leftists for disorderly conduct and potential for violence, so if any of them tries to assault you get a cop right away rather than duke it out with them. Like in sports where the referees never see the first punch but they always see the second one, so it is at protests. Be careful and keep your composure--do not be provoked. Most of us have experience and know how to handle ourselves in these situations. However, if you bring friends or family members, or pass this along to other groups, it is imperative they know what is expected of them. We can not afford to embarrass President Bush at this critical time by the antics of a few hotheads. We were able to have a successful month-long freep at the the Vice President's residence last fall--the Get Out of Cheney's House protests seen around the world--by maintaining these standards of civil behavior.

We sought but were denied a permit for a large rally on the 29th for security reasons. Therefore, we will be using freeper ingenuity in order to act within the law for this action. Law enforcement has enough to worry about right now and we do not wish to add to their troubles.

Where: Downtown Washington, D.C. Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from 14th Street to the Capitol (Navy Memorial is on Pennsylvania between 9th and 7th Streets.)

When: Saturday, September 29, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. (or later).

Signs/costumes: Large signs with large, thick letters and the Free Republic URL on the bottom of each sign. Rather than have 'love it or leave it' type signs, have messages and photos/graphics supporting our troops, President Bush, the families and victims of the terrorist attacks and America. Costumes should be in good taste.

Sustenance: Snacks, sandwiches, water or sodas (no alcohol!)to last the day. Try to travel light, however, as we'll be on the move.

Flags/ ribbons: Please bring American flags, large and small, and others like the Gadsden flag. Please bring red, white and blue ribbons to wear.

Bring video cameras or still cameras to document our activities.

It is most likely we will not be allowed to use bullhorns.

Use sunscreen and/or hats, it will be sunny and in the 70s.

Contact: Kristinn or Angelwood via FReepmail or e-mail. Please include your e-mail address with your FReepmail message in case the server crashes this week :-)

Weather report via intellicast.com: Scattered showers. Oh good. I hope view of the anti-war protestors want to get their socks wet. We're sturdier than all that.

Tom Knot in Today's Washington Times:

Give Peace a Chance" to What? Fully Grasp Carnage?

The anti-war misfits are coming to the District this weekend to give peace a chance. They obviously have misinterpreted the horror of Sept. 11, 2001, orchestrated as it was by Osama bin Laden and his whacked-out followers. They obviously are mixed up.

If they want to give peace a chance, they need to go to Kabul, Afghanistan, where, hopefully, their message would be embraced by bin Laden and his Taliban protectors.

Perhaps, in a best-case scenario, the Taliban, bin Laden and the misfits would join hands and sing, "We are the World."

You never know.

I do know the District is not the place to be if the misfits really want to give peace a chance.

They should have learned that in grade school from the schoolyard ruffians inclined to deliver a punch in the nose to classmates. They should have learned that you do not go to the victim with the message of peace. You go to the source of the attack.

Jane Fonda said last week she wants to understand the motivation of the terrorists. Good, old Hanoi Jane. She wants to understand. She wants to discover the underlying causes of the evil. Before you know it, in Hanoi Jane's nutty world, bin Laden could wind up being a victim of American society.

I hope Hanoi Jane is up to a trip to Kabul, where she could reprise her alliance with the Vietcong and pose in front of a Taliban tank or anti-aircraft gun.

Being a creature of Hollywood, Hanoi Jane understands the benefit of a great photo opportunity, aided by the Taliban's progressive view of women. Hanoi Jane would not have to worry about how the lighting hits her aging face. She would be covered in clothing from head to toe, as all women in Afghanistan are. The Taliban might allow her to hold a flower, although you can't be certain. The Taliban leaders have a lot of interesting laws, to say the least.

The anti-war misfits should be taking notes if they are only stopping in Washington before heading to Kabul. I hope they don't mind the inconvenience of Reagan National Airport being closed. That goes with the fear across America. The fear probably is an overreaction in the view of the misfits.

If only we give peace a chance, we can sort all this out and go back to our lives before Sept. 11. Right. Just give peace a chance.

The number of dead from the attack is approximately 7,000. But give peace a chance. There is only rubble where the World Trade Center towers used to stand. But give peace a chance. The Pentagon has a hole in it. But give peace a chance. There's a crater in Shanksville, Pa. But give peace a chance.

It probably is a good thing the misfits were not around in Hitler's day. They probably would have wanted to understand Hitler's hang-up with the Jews. They probably would have wanted to give peace a chance. Such a sentiment might have been opposed by the survivors of the concentration camps and their descendants. Maybe they wouldn't be around today.

It is hard to say if the misfits are partial to breathing. You might reasonably ask: Which part of the carnage don't they understand? Do they need another attack to have a sense of clarity?

As it is, they are coming to the nation's capital to chant, "An eye for an eye and the world goes blind." They are coming to chant: "One, two, three, four, we don't want your racist war." They are coming to be a pathetic parody of the Vietnam War era.

Try not to be angry with them. They have a right to be dimwitted, even if it insults the memory of the dead and their families and costs taxpayer money that could be better spent elsewhere. Given the mood of the country, Mayor Anthony A. Williams and other D.C. officials are obligated to make their visit a safe one.

We wish the misfits the best.

Break a leg, as is said in show business.

We hope Washington is merely a warm-up engagement before they take their show to Kabul.

If the misfits do go there, however, a word of advice: Try to avoid a trip to the soccer stadium. That's where the Taliban leaders deliver a bullet to the back of the head of those they deem to be misfits.

Excerpt from the Wash. Times:

...After those meetings was cancelled, the action center — which backed a group that was part of last year's raucous and at times violent protests at a IMF-World Bank meeting in the District — decided to hold an anti-war demonstration instead.

Still, organizer Brian Becker promised a "lawful, orderly, disciplined demonstration" — and armband-wearing peacekeepers will make sure the rally remains orderly.

The peacekeepers also will offer protection from counterdemonstrators, who may seek to disrupt the unpopular message of the protest — that misguided U.S. policies spawned the terrorists that struck the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon on Sept. 11, Mr. Becker said.

Also keeping an eye on the protestors will be uniformed Secret Service agents, U.S. Park Police officers and Metropolitan Police Department officers.

If the protesters show up in the numbers indicated on their original permit — at least 5,000 people from IAC and up to 3,000 from the Green Party — they will be met by a "large contingent" of civil-disturbance unit officers specially trained in crowd control, said Sgt. Joe Gentile of the Metro Police Department.

My take is the "arm band" wearing "peace keepers" should be high on our list to watch tomorrow. This is blatant propoganda and part of a plan that will seek to provoke an over-reaction on our part (especially by the "peace keepers) with the intent to play to the press that the IAC/I-A.N.S.W.E.R. goons did all they could to keep it peaceful but the "counter demonstrators" attacked without provocation. Remember the D.C. Chapter rules - and remember to ALWAYS maintain situational awareness of the events around you - extract yourself from the area if you sense that there are indications that things are turning violent. Err on the side of caution. Wherever you find yourself tomorrow always have a plan on where you will immediately go if the situation turns sour. Think ahead - bring a D.C. map and use the "buddy system". More on this will be briefed at the Navy Memorial tomorrow morning.

"Good morning tomkat" bump.

Not to worry tomkat. We're here and readying ourselves for tomorrow's activities.

Dave's advice to always be aware of our surroundings and activities and people around us is sterling. While I don't know what's in store for us tomorrow, I am optimistic that things will work out well for our side. Remember, 90% of America is on our side. The commie yahoos haven't had folks counter their babble before.

Now I have to get to work... will be making more signs as time allows. See y'all tomorrow !!

Kristinn, do you think this will be safe? You know when Chick-with-a-brain comes to a protest, I bring the whole Brain family in tow (including 2 little ones). Also, is an all day protest a must in order to stay together for safety? Or do you think we can bail out after a couple hours when the munchkins get tired?
