Yes, mass55th; and the other thing it does for us is to demonstrate that the U.S. isn't primarily focused on installing a new government, or engaging in "nation building." Powell keeps the issue focused on eradicating terrorists and their sponsors, not on governments per se (though those governments that give aid and comfort to terrorism will have to answer for it in due course), nor on national political figures that we happen to dislike (intensely). Don't forget what Teddy Roosevelt said: "Speak softly, but carry a big stick." If you're carrying a big stick, and the world knows it, then you don't need chest-beating histrionics or threats. I think Secretary Powell and the other members of the Bush team (Rummy is "bad cop" to Powell's "good cop" BTW -- JMHO) are doing a masterful job of coalition building, while keeping the enemy in the dark about our near-term plans and long-range strategy. Increasing the level of uncertainty for OBL and his boys -- including those inside the Taliban -- seems to be a useful tactic. No need to rush to judgment, IMHO. best, bb.
