What a difference 10 months make. Last November I broke the unwritten rule that requires journalists to be neutral political observers when I got embroiled in the controversy over the presidential election and publicly supported Al Gore.
It was not just with friends that I passionately argued the election had been stolen and that Mr. Gore would be the better president. I was one of the signatories to the pompously titled "Emergency Committee of Concerned Citizens 2000," which took full-page ads in the New York Times demanding a revote in Palm Beach County, Fla. I wrote op-eds for Salon.com and the New York Daily News. On television talk shows from MSNBC to Fox News's popular "The O'Reilly Factor," I made the case for Mr. Gore. In thousands of e-mails, I urged voters to deluge Clay Roberts, director of Florida's Division of Elections, with appeals for a recount.

People can think Oswald did it without being "shills". Don't be so narrow-minded.
How refreshing this mea culpa is to me. I think I shall write him another letter and hope for a better reply!
That won't happen ... Bush doesn't operate that way. I've seen his face - and the demeanor of his advisors and lieutenants - and I see a profound understanding of the mortal threat this beast presents to civilized life, and an absolute resolve to do what is needed to destroy it. This is above polling and politics, and I'm sanguine that Bush has the trust of Americans, and the savvy, to keep it above rancor and politics. The Democrats are going to suffer badly if they try to demagogue this historic challenge. Americans are paying attention now, they'll redouble their focus when they get their 401K quarterlies, and Democrats NEVER flourish in an environment where American's are engaged and paying political attention.
Here's the general gist of words spoken by Tom Clancy on FoxNews over the weekend regarding the difference in R's & D's.
Author Tom Clancy said something along these lines last night: Leftists paint pictures of fantasy bridges. They take pictures of old bridges in weird angles to show how much better things can look if you look at them from a better perspective. They hold meetings about how new bridges must be built soon to help the ailing infrastructure or how children would benefit from the new bridge. Once a committee has found a suitable design that does not offend any particular group and includes everyone's ideas, a bridge can be built. Press releases are sent out to all media outlets. Computer graphic animations are shown on all TV networks about how great the bridge will be when it is completed. A groundbreaking ceremony is put together with hundreds of local politicians and celebrities. Then the red tape begins...
On the other hand, conservatives build bridges from time-tested designs. They fret that too many architects could compromise the safety of the bridge and contract an experienced builder for the bridge construction. When the bridge is completed on time and on budget, they barely even say anything about it other than: "Let the department of public safety know that the bridge will be done tomorrow."
When leftists have a bridge collapse, they immediately want to blame anyone other than themselves for a poorly designed structure and talk about building a beautiful monument to help people forget how horrible the loss of life was. To build another bridge, would be an affront to the victims' families have have been through so much pain. A new bridge would also just stir up old memories about the previous failure.
Conservatives take the fire and responsibility, then immediately put together a newer, stronger, better bridge ASAP. Soon, people are driving across the bridge again.
Why can't they just build the bridge and shut the hell up?
Voted for Bill Clinton the first time - DUMB
Voted for Bill Clinton the second time - REAL DUMB
Voted for Al Gore - DUHHH...WILL HE NEVER LEARN?
Now supports Bush - FINALLY! SHEESH!
I'll admit I like to see liberals come to their senses but I have to seriously question someone's judgement that voted for those scumbags three times after all they put this country through.
It takes a big man to humble himself like this. All I can say is, Wow. And I bet Katherine Harris is feeling pretty good about a shot at being elected to the public service institution of her choice.
Bush didn't move an inch and just looked over his shoulder at that over made-up, ashen heap of Gore...Bush just nodded at him and kept on going.
That one act should have told millions of sheeple just what Bush was made of.
This post moved me to write him. He had moved me to tears. I just hope we can put our political differences aside for now, we're at WAR for the survival of our country.
That awesome sentence was penned by Mr. Franklin Emerson Thoreau.
It's hard to sort out some of these Libertarians. So you believe they are self-centered? In discussions with a few of them leads me to believe that they are so "afraid" when there's war, our freedoms will diminish. I counter that, without WAR, you may be dead and you'll have eternal Freedom...
You put a smile on my face. Something I've needed. Good call. :-)
