Living in Tornado Alley, we are used to preparing for potential disasters on a moment's notice. Believe me, I would rather be thinking about refinancing our home or Christian schooling for our children, but when September 11 occurred, it brought a lot of things home for us. I hate being unprepared for anything, so we looked at what we could do, at what we should do, in this uncertain time.
Thanks for the kind words.

Thank you. Yes, the government apparently does think the threat is real, or they would not be studying it and looking into methods for counter-acting or treating it.
Sadly, in many cases, our ability to respond to each of these threats is, as you pointed out, limited. We simply do not have the resources to contend with a large-scale biological attack (at least as far the CDC and JH are concerned). Then again, the Government may not be telling all about our response capabilities, which I certainly hope in the case.
What irritates me most is that we knew China was violating the CWC, but the Clinton Administration did not impose sanctions of any kind (in fact, continued to suck up to them in return for cold hard cash) and the Republicans went along with giving them normal trading relations.
The war with the terrorists is a long time in the making. I'm praying we still have time to make a difference, before they do try hitting us again in a way we seem unprepared to stop.

Thanks for the kind words. So few people are able, or willing, to follow a line of thought to its logical conclusion (Ref: your conclusion as to which of you - you or your husband - would be the most "expendable" if the worst comes to worst), that anyone who does so has earned a few kind words.
Most people just reason themselves to a place they find comfortable - and stop. You're one of the rare ones. :-)

"but the best solution is use any means necessary to stop an attack of this nature before it can be launched. "Now if you could just deliver that message to the just give peace a chance gang, in a way that they could understand it, we wouldn't have to listen to all the whining. You are absolutely right, of course.

At the first sign of a "flu" outbreak, everyone in our home will become "mysteriously" ill. The flu we always have with us.

Ouch; yow, stinging eyes. Did you write this cheery, but too-real, little essay? Yikes.

To all of you who have been thoughtful enough to provide us with information on biological, chemical etc. warfare, as well as self-protection tips, a big thanks.
Your information is vital and we all should take heed of it. Hopefully, we will not experience such a nightmare, but isn't it better to be prepared than dead should such a horror occur?

Thank you-- one of my goals is to get people to educate themselves, and then pass that on to others....

My compliments to you and your husband.
I strongly suggest that everyone in What's Left of America do something similar - and stay vigilant!
To: TheWriter
God bless you for the common sense you have shown in the past and now.

Thanks for this excellent piece. After seeing what diabolical horrors these horrible people are capable of, I will not take lightly the admonishment to plan ahead.
Incidentally, TW, as of last week (Sept. 19), I have one less person to be concerned about saving should the worst happen here. His struggle is over and he is in the presence of our Lord and Savior now. I miss him terribly.

Vaccination only works ahead of time. Once you get sick with small pox, vaccination will do no good at all.

I agree with you about preparing - I lived in Texas most of my life and always had a "baby" bag ready when my children were little - now we live in snow country and we prepared for winter similarly to the article above - being prepared is what good parents do, contrary to what a few on this thread might think..... My husband works near DC quite a bit and he was there on the 11th - I have spoken to him about what I should do in case we had some type of attack on Nuclear plants nearby.....

I don't doubt for a minute they are planning a biological attack, and I suspect they did the hoof-and-mouth epidemic in England as practice or else to weaken Europe.

Does anyone else remember Donna Shalala's strenuous efforts to destroy our sample of smallpox? One of the few left in the world from which a vaccine can be obtained.
We would have been in deep yogurt had the Clinton administration had their way in this.
It seems God just continually goes before us, even as we seek to go our own way.

I wish the US government would also take the threat of biological warfare seriously. Ninety miles off the coast of Florida, Castro continues pouring money into his now world class biological warfare laboratories. America's response to this threat? Clinton gave Castro the right to fly his planes over the eastern half of the US.
