AUDUBON WANTS US TO NOT DRILL FOR OIL
AUDUBON SOCIETY, | 9/6/01 | AUDUBON GRASSROOTS, ME

Posted on 09/22/2001 1:42:05 PM PDT by WHATNEXT?

I just received an OREGON ALERT from the Audubon Grassroots Department in D.C. They want me to contact our Senator Gordon Smith and tell him to NOT vote for drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge.

I am urging you to contact Senator Smith and tell him to VOTE FOR NATIONAL SECURITY AND YES FOR DRILLING FOR OIL. From postings just this morning I see that Saudi Arabia's leaders are split on backing America. They don't want us to use the newest air base with most advanced technology for our planes. We have no friends in the Middle East and we should not be dependent on their oil.

Audubon has been nice enough to supply a FREE webservice to contact Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon. www.protectthearctic.com. You can send a letter or fax by the email address. You can contact Senator Smith at (202) 224-3753. I used FR own site to contact Sen. Smith.

IN THE NAME OF NATIIONAL SECURITY DRILL OUR OWN OIL!!!!

Why th' heck should the Audubon Society care about the drilling in the portion of ANWR that has been designated as an oil exploration area? It's a flat, treeless plain, covered in permafrost, with not a bird in sight for hundreds of miles. There might be a few sea birds up there in the summer, but the drilling rigs come down before that.

EXACTLY. BUT, Senator Smith, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, may hold the sole vote that could "protect", as the Audubon says, the Artic Refuge or open it up to drilling. They want their thousands of Oregon members to contact Sen. Smith and influence his vote.

I don't want dead silence from those who are RIGHTLY CONCERNED ABOUT OUR ABILITY TO PROTECT AND DEFEND OURSELVES!! Please contact Sen. Smith.

How much oil can we actually get out of the ANWR? And how soon can we get it? Is there a chance that we'll actually get enough to seriously offset a potential shortage of imported oil?

And what about higher efficiency standards? There's been a lot of people saying that upgraded fuel efficiency in automobiles would save more oil than we could ever pull out of the ANWR. Is this no longer true? I saw a guy putting something like $60 or $80 into his SUV the other day, and all I could think was "whew... that's gonna make a nice paperweight if this thing goes south."

We must stop reacting crisis to crisis. Conserve, YES, make advances in technology, YES, but DRILL FOR OIL NOW for our NATIONAL SECURITY.

IF, the oil industry in Texas, Oklahoma, and Alaska was going at full tilt, we would be less vulnerable to Middle Eastern politics.

I was a member of the Society until their rabid left wing liberal scumsucking homosexual loving democrat politics surfaced during the last election. The Audubon Society can stuff it up their cloaca.

Yes, BUT, right now they are busy sending Sen. Smith faxes. He is Senator in a very split state. Like Republican congressmen from the Eastern seaboard - he leans left in order to get elected.

Here in Oregon, ENVIRONMENTALISTS, are a strong voting block. Smith needs to hear from the other side of the issue.

True enough. They also live in wooden houses, but have basically stop the logging industry in Oregon.

Don't get me wrong - I love birds, trees, rivers, country -- but, BALANCE is needed.

From the organization's President, John Flicker (bold is mine):

All of us at Audubon are deeply saddened by the events of September 11. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

This incomprehensible tragedy brings into focus what is most important to us - our families and loved ones, our communities, our freedoms, and the other core values that make our society strong.

For more than 100 years, Audubon has been an American institution, promoting values important to our society. We believe that strong communities are the foundation of a strong country, and that a healthy environment is essential for our families, society, and a prosperous economy.

Audubon will continue to provide leadership to our members and society at large. From the Arctic to Latin America, from preserving Important Bird Areas to encouraging healthy habitats in backyards, we will work for the preservation of our natural heritage. Our staff, our volunteers, and our chapters will continue to enrich the lives of every American by insuring the protection of birds, other wildlife and their habitats throughout the Americas.

John Flicker
President, Audubon

The mention of the Arctic first is no accident. They won't budge. The h*** with them!

Is there a chance that we'll actually get enough to seriously offset a potential shortage of imported oil?

It'll help some. But to put a bigger dent in our dependence on imported oil, we should also be converting our power plants to clean coal technology or nuclear.

And what about higher efficiency standards?

Aaaaack!

Get Government regulators out of the product design business. Slap a tariff on imported oil and petroleum products. The domestic market will sort out the alternatives available: efficiency, conservation, drilling, coal, nuclear, solar, etc. etc.

Drill for oil. Roast the birds with a little garlic butter, if necessary.
