A Vietnam grunt platoon leader, with a Bronze Star. I'm with it.

I'll just post a few comments here from other threads:

1) An inalienable right to life, from conception to natural death, is the foundational principle upon which all other rights and freedoms are predicated. Ridge is pro-abortion. Therefore I fear he will not respect all our other rights, which flow from our inalienable right to life. (My own standard response. If you don't get this concept, God help us all--Proud2brc)

2) Abortion is murder. Those who support abortion, support murder. Supporters of murder are not only not fit for high public office, but they are also not fit for decent society, i.e., they should be shunned.

3) George W. Bush has claimed to be pro-life. (Of course, he's also perfectly willing to allow abortions in the case of rape or RU-486, so one can't put too much stock into what W. claims.) Yet, here he goes again, putting someone like Tom Ridge, who is publically in favor of protecting the murder of innocent children, into high office.

4) The pattern is clear to anyone who can crawl outside the box of two-party worldview. The Republicans can get away with making the unconstitutional, big-government changes that the Democrats can't. The Democrats then attain power and abuse the system that the Republicans have put in place for them. Meanwhile, they all get more powerful and more arrogant. While us serfs are expected to shut up, play by their rules and pay their friggin' bills.

5) picture this office run by a Clinton appointee. Say Reno. What if they decide that the REAL threat of domestic terrorism is "Armed Right Wing Extremists"? Think the BATF is rough now?

This office in the wrong hands is a potential disaster for our country. God help us if its ever run by a Beria or a Derzhinsky.

6) picture this office run by a Clinton appointee. Say Reno.....Gun-grabber Ridge is better than Reno. By how much, though?

The reason Ridge has been given this job is because GWB lusts after PA's electoral votes in 2004. Florida is looking very shaky, and he must have PA. What better way than to have the PA Governor for the Home Defense billet, and perhaps being groomed for the V.P. slot.

So I guess he wants to diss Rudy too. Yes, there are the times that try men's souls..but please stand down in this particular instance. Ridge has a job to do that has nothing to do with abortion. You won, the man isn't vice president and thank you for that but now we hve work to do......LET'S ROLL

That me be true about PA, but the leader of Homeland Defence must support the right to life and the RKBA. How can he not?

As soon as I heard about Ridge, I thought, "Jeez, I wonder what kind of protection he's gonna offer the unborn child in the womb?"

I didn't know you could be a practicing Catholic and also pro-infanticide. He's CINO, just like the Kennedy's.

I don't suppose he will have to offer protection to the womb, since [thankfully] this position doesn't deal with that type of issue.

It makes you uncertain of such a person's leadership qualities.

No, it doesn't. President Bush has done here what he has done in every other position of leadership. He has chosen the most qualified person for the job rather than looking only at his or her position on other issues.

This is precisely why America is in such good hands right now. Every Cabinet position is filled with a top notch person..........including Tom Ridge.

To tell the truth, I am more worried about the lack of support of the President from those of you who are rigid rightwingers, than I am from the peacenik left. Conservatives should be strong and united patriots right now, and instead you narrow rightists are just whining idealogues.

I am pro-life...I have ACTUALLY rescued a baby (now a fine contributor to society)....but you are right Dirtboy...the anti-Bush types just don't know when to shut up...they HURT their causes by the constant cry baby tactics everytime Bush doesn't kiss their butts.

Ah, there's the rub...does no one here comprehend the long term ramifications of this appointment??? Ridge was not made VP in 2000 because the Republican party was not yet ready for a pro-abort candidate. Maybe by 2004 the Republican voters WILL be ready, especially if Cheney's heart gives out and Ridge becomes Bush's VP sooner.

Never have I been so utterly disillusioned and disappointed by the rank and file Freepers here tonight. Your inability to see current anf future trends and perceive serious dangers within the "conservative" party is heartbreaking.

You've been warned.

I'm willing to be villified and flamed to get hard heads to comprehend the enormous implications of this appointment. How many of you are ready to stop your knee jerk condemnations and seriously examine the ramifications of this?

The truth is the United States allows its citizens to reach into the safest place in the world (womb) and pull out the most defensless person in the world and kill them by the millions. Be carefull with your feelings on abortion because the same reasons given for abortion at the beginning of life will be the same ones given at the end of life. Think about it.

This is a joke, right?? Cause if it isn't, it's one of the dumbest things I've seen posted at FR.

Ridge is highly qualified for this position. President Bush has chosen nothing but the best people in his administration, and Ridge is a perfect example. Do you seriously think that our President is thinking about reelection right now, with the massive crisis he is faced with??? If so, your cynicism is despicable.

No, because they are figments of your imagination. The "ramifications" of this appointment are that we will have a highly skilled person heading up an important position dealing with the very real dangers that face this nation.

I am strongly pro-life, but your reasoning defies every rule of logic.

I certainly am not in favor of an Administration riddled with appointees on the wrong side of Right to Life and RKBA.

I believe that Ridge was appointed by Bush despite, not because, of his stands on these issues. I'll bet he modifies his stance to be more in keeping with the national Republican party (especially on RKBA).

I don't know about my fellow Freepers, but on election night when I saw Florida projected for Gore I was wishing that Bush had selected Ridge, and that PA was in the Bush column.

Let us all recall just how close we came to President Albert Gore!

I think every sucessful politician thinks about reelection as often as teenage boys think about sex. I think I read somewhere that that was about every 30 seconds.

And you will go gnashing away in utter frustration that no gloom and doom happened because Ridge has permissive views on abortion. Take it to the bank.
