BUSH APPOINTS PRO-ABORTION 'CATHOLIC' TO HEAD HOME SECURITY

WASHINGTON, September 21, 2001 (LSN.ca) - In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in the United States, President George Bush announced last night the creation of a Cabinet-level position to head the new Office of Homeland Security. In a great disappointment to pro-lifers, Bush named notoriously pro-abortion Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, to head the office.

Matt Abbott, director of public affairs for America's Pro-Life Action League told LifeSite, "If Ridge refuses to ensure the security of the most helpless citizens of his state - the unborn - how can he be expected to safeguard security for the nation?" Abbott also commented that Ridge is "a self-proclaimed Catholic while maintaining his strident pro-abortion position. What kind of principles does a person like that have? It makes you uncertain of such a person's leadership qualities."

See related coverage on the position and Ridge's pro-abortion stand:

If his personal values weren't so screwed up he would have defeated Hildebeast.

Wasn't Rudy's cancer also a factor in his dropping out? Or was that caused by his screwed up personal values too?

While the Office of Home Security sounds a little hokey to me, I think it's great that Ridge has been removed as it twere from the governors office to a position that probably won't amount to much (unless its attention gets turn to attacking American privacy and rights-always a possibility). He will do a lot less harm in this office than where he was, akin to Christy Tod Whitman.

What's the difference between the single issue, fanatical pro-life folks and the Taleban?

Good question.

Oh, you don't want to mention facts. These people can't deal with that.

...and you come across as a "pragmatic" Catholic, just like Ridge.

The issue of respect for innocent life and the immense powers that will be vested in this new office are co-joined.

Ridge will make life and death decisions, whether we are prepared at this time to envisage such a scenario.

To date, his "pro-death sentiments vis-a-vis innocent unborn human life" stance would tend to call his judgment into question.

>WHAT THE HELL DOES ABORTION HAVE TO DO WITH HOMELAND DEFENSE?

Nothing, unfortunately, some people on here want to push their agenda to the front and push WTC/NYC to the back.

It's like they are in a burning building and they find out the firechief is pro-choice, they tell him to go away. They'll happily burn alive rather than be rescued by somebody who is pro-choice.

I apologize for my example in light of last week, but I think it is an apt one.

You are either with America or you are not, which is it?

"He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters. "

Your post is pure sophistry.

Do you really believe that President Bush would support your assertions? If you do, then perhaps a few courses in logic may serve you in good stead.

He is not. He has an A rating from the NRA. The GOA hates him for ONE bad vote. He is a vietnam veteran, a real (albeit flawed) leader and he is NOT President. He is the President's choice for civil defense coordinator. A good choice.

I guess the NRA will give up "assault weapons" from their warm lively hands. That is precisely what Rep. Ridge is responsible for, the "assault weapons" ban. I believe he cast the tie breaking vote.

His abortion position has NO bearing on this job or his ability to perform it.

Personally, I don't care, even if I'm pro-life.

However, don't kid yourself. Ridge IS being pre-positioned in case VP Cheney has any problems.

I can see it now:

Dateline: KABUL (AP) - Captain Sandy Caine, leader of the Special Forces A-team that executed Osama Bin Laden and his nest of terrorists, was pilloried today by the National Radical Pro-Life Coalition because he once wrote in a high school tract that he wasnt sure about whether life began at conception or later.

NRPLC officials called on Congress to withhold to the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroism, because of his incorrect stance on abortion.

>Murder is illegal. Should the government give us the legal "choice" to commit murder? How about rape?

You can twist and turn it anyway you want. The fact is, the government has too much control over our lives anyways. I'm sure some of you would like a cabinet-level Secretary of Morality. That's fine and dandy, I think the Taliban has one of those. Oh wait they do.

Whether you think abortion is right or wrong or murder or whatever, the fact is, the more government has control over what you can do, the worse off you our. History has proven this over and over. These things start off small, government restricts this little bit over here, that little bit over there, pretty soon, you have to show papers everywhere you go and get approval to travel out of the city and to take a job.

Bush campaign stand was that he was anti-abortion, but reasonable people could disagree. He was anti third trimester abortions etc. but would not go where there wasn't public concensus. There still isn't public concensus, and now isn't the time to push it.

He has kept his word which is all you can hold him to. Gary Bauer didn't win the presidency.

Your post is in the same league as Falwell's, Maher's, and Pencildick Jennings screwups. It also paints you as a one issue person who doesn't respect the law of the land even though there are many of us who may disagree with it. You may be able to afford to have tunnel vision, but the President must be a visionary.

It is unfortunate that you can't get focused.

Good question.

The Taliban endorses murder of innocents. Pro-life people are trying to end the murder of innocents. To expand upon that, what's the difference between those who support abortion and the Taliban?

How about somebody besides a politician. Say, Richard "Dick" Marcinko, of "Rouge Warrior" fame?
