...Canada's longstanding reputation as "sucker nation of the world" in running a sieve-like immigration and refugee system... The U.S. has not been to far behind in this regard, and that's a big reason why we're in this mess. The American people in poll after poll, year after year, have been in favor of much more restrictive (and, it turns out more sensible) immigration policies, but the media, business, and political elites have foisted mass immigration on both countries for decades anyway.

Gosh, its nice to see that there are still anti-francophones in Canada who want to practically like up Quebecois right next to the terrorists in front of the executioner. Quebec is more French than even France is today. The France of yesteryear bailed the USA out during the Revolutionary war and Quebec is a very conservative place. In fact, the Parti/Bloc Quebecois is the major opposition to the Liberals (Chreiten) in the province of Quebec.
Chretien is looking for the vote of the Liberal Party in Ontario (and part of Quebec) who support him. Toronto is where most of the immigrants live. To do otherwise would erode his multicultural base. If Canada were ruled by the Quebecois Chretien wouldn't be in office and French would be the only official language.
And, I'm not even Canadian. I'm from Michigan, and I was born in Michigan, however, these people are my ancestors and I feel a need to stand up for them.

The Tories? They have the fewest MP's of all 5 parites in the House.
Currently conservatives are split between essentialy 3 parties and none of them are ready to govern right now. I hope that they put aside their differences and unite as one party to create a real alternative to the Liberals. Before Sept 11th that didn't look too likely, perhaps now it is more possible.

"What's to say about France? We KNOW where they are going."Yeah, but ya know what, Howlin? I couldn't believe it my own self....:)....but Chirac's (sp?) recent visit damned near cured me of spouting my famous French jokes. Seriously. The guy was absolutely terrific. He toured NY and saw the devastation up close..............and he was stunned. His press conference was something to behold. There..........the President of France.........talking MIGHTY tough. He made it crystal clear, as did (another guy I used to bash a LOT) Tony Blair, that France is OUTRAGED at this attack, that they are 100% behind us.........and ALL the way, no matter what, no matter what it takes.
I was duly impressed.
Even "Le Monde" published a stunning piece in which they said ".......now, we are ALL New Yorkers; we are ALL Americans." They even said that they owe their freedom to the United States, and that it was time to stand up and be with us.
Now, you can count me "stunned".
God bless 'em, is all I can say. God bless 'em, indeed.

There is no way the non-confidence vote would pass, the Liberals have a large majority, and they are so arrogant that I doubt a failed one would have any impact since most opposition MP's come from the west.
They will respond to the polls though, over time.

I know what you are saying is true because I live on the Canadian border in WA state and most of the Canadians in BC love the US.

A lot of Canadians are pissed off about the 'snub.' The majority of Canadians are anti-America. For 30-40 years(at least since commie Trudeau) the governemnt/elites/eduction system had brainwashed Canadians that the USSR is greater place than USA. As a pro-USA man for many, many years, all I can say to the Canadians with the hurt feelings is...#$@^ YOU!
On another note. I cannot believe that the people of United States of America have not closed the northern borders. Every know terrorist org. has DEEP roots in Canada. Not a few, every group. All US citizens should be screaming from the top of the lungs on this problem. If this issue does not warrant a Freerepublic campaign nothing does. It cannot be over emphasised.

"How long before the Tories come back to power?"
I hope never since they are bunch of liberals wackos. The last Torie bunch raised our taxes 279 times. No thanks. Tories and the Liberal party should merge. Two peas in pod.

Flapdoodle ! The Brits still have a Navy. Canada doesn't. That doesn't mean the US and Canada are no longer best friends. I suppose you also believe that "Moral Support" is meaningless?

The U.S. has not been to far behind in this regard, and that's a big reason why we're in this mess. Multiculturalists and the PC Useful Idiots.
Americas's own Cell of the Qaeda, and fellow travelers of Osama Bin Laden.
Ignorance or no, these losers are every bit as guilty in the Mass Murder as the terrorists themselves.
They have painted a HUGE sign on America's forehead":
SUCKERS... COME AND GET US!
They consider themselves "sensitive Americans". They are the worst of our nation, and prosecutable, in my opinion.

When was the last time so many Canadians were killed in an act of terror or war? WWII? Remember, a significant portion of Eastern Canada today is comprised of former American draft-dodging cowards and their progeny. All that we really require of Canada at this time is that they continue making good beer.
