He is a great guy, but why do we need another Cabinet Position? What is Condi Rice job supposed to be? They already have enough positions that when working in concert will be prepared. They haven't been for the last 10 years unless they knew they had to, like Olympics, Millenium Celebrations, etc.

I'm watching FoxNews and a crawl says " Ashcroft to speak on Antiterrorist law". It will be interesting what the definition of terrorist is. WHY do we need ANOTHER law to combat terrorism??????????

Yep, 'traitor' is the new FR mantra. ANYone that disagrees with the new consensus of how the war should be viewed or fought will be called treasonous.

And, of course, radical authoritarians will shout the loudest to define what that new consensus shall be.

Luckly, I'm REAL hard of hearing.

Is this GOP Lt Gov guy going to be running for Governor in 2002 or will he have to face another GOP front runner in the Pennsylvania GOP primary race?

I hear Ridge's pro-choice views being aired quite a bit in this thread. Logical question -- What does Ridge's abortion views have to do with his new position in Washington?

An inalienable right to life, from conception to natural death, is the foundational principle upon which all other rights and freedoms are predicated. Ridge is pro-abortion. Therefore I fear he will not respect all our other rights, which flow from our inalienable right to life.

Well, I guess we should never have created the Air Force in '47 because it only increased the size of the federal government, right? No CIA for the same reason, right? Basically, no progress. No, guided missiles, no jet engines, no nuclear powered vessels.

Wow, your thinking would get us far.

The pattern is clear to anyone who can crawl outside the box of two-party worldview. The Republicans can get away with making the unconstitutional, big-government changes that the Democrats can't. The Democrats then attain power and abuse the system that the Republicans have put in place for them. Meanwhile, they all get more powerful and more arrogant. While us serfs are expected to shut up, play by their rules and pay their friggin' bills.

But look, they threw us a bone of false patriotism! Gnawwwwww....

It's very simple, Joe.

Abortion is murder. Those who support abortion, support murder. Supporters of murder are not only not fit for high public office, but they are also not fit for decent society, i.e., they should be shunned.

George W. Bush has claimed to be pro-life. (Of course, he's also perfectly willing to allow abortions in the case of rape or RU-486, so one can't put too much stock into what W. claims.) Yet, here he goes again, putting someone like Tom Ridge, who is publically in favor of protecting the murder of innocent children, into high office.

There, does that help?

Bush has been trying to get Ridge in there ever since he floated the trial balloon for him for VP.

Absolutely. As soon as I saw Ridge sitting next to the First Lady, I knew trouble was brewing. "Uh oh", I thought "here he comes again."

First thing he needs to do is round up all the ankle biting libertarians. Then he can focus on the enemies from without.

Nice to see the Fascist element out in the open. Are these roundups to be just concentration camps do we wear a big yellow "L", or is it a "Vernichtungslager"?

Buddy YOU are the enemy of every real American.

Clean now, but, what if another clinton type gets in in the future? Have a healthy suspicion about things such as this. Could this affect forums such as this one. I, for one, do not want cradle to the grave security if I have to give up my freedom to speak, think or move about.

Agree. picture this office run by a Clinton appointee. Say Reno.  What if they decide that the REAL threat of domestic terrorism is "Armed Right Wing Extremists"? Think the BATF is rough now?

This office in the wrong hands is a potential disaster for our country. God help us if its ever run by a Beria or a Derzhinsky.
