ITs a nice title for an article but is it really the start of a break away from the UN? I doubt it....

I am more afraid of the way our "allies" are telling us we have to clear any plans thru the UN, and that we need to be less "isolationist" (ie, that we need to ratify Kyoto, the ICC, get rid of NMD, etc) than I am of our enemies in the radical Islamic world. If Rumsfield and GWB stick to their guns and either hold the coalition together anyway, or successfully go it alone, the UN will be defanged .

Let's see... did the terrorists ask permission before destroying a large part of lower Manahattan? Did they say "Kofi, May I"? Guess not. Ok, guess we don't have to either.

We do NOT report to the UN.
They are not our Government.
They are not our superiors.
They are not our "god".
They are not our mommy and daddy.
They are not even pro-American.
They will not truly support us anyways.
My compliments to President G.W.Bush and his cool-headed administration for the way they are handling this.

The UN already laid waste to the last bit of credibility they had with that absurdity of a meeting on racism in Durban.

I would give Bush kudos in so much as it breaks away from the precident of having to "get permission" from the UN to day anything.

As for backing away from the UN on the long term, some may be right about this not meaning much. Still it's a start. And it doesn't bode well for a UN that thinks it's in the catbird's seat.

Getting permission would have been a precident setting act. So is this! I think Bush has been wise to stiff arm the UN. Keep it up George.

Ahum, want to make it a two-fer? Clamp down on illegal immigration, without which this incident would have been much harder to execute.

"China has said that it believes firm evidence should be laid before the UN before any military action."

Remember when the Chinese Embassy was accidently bombed in the Kosovo action? The U.S. bellied up to the bar and agreed to pay damages. This was an accident. The terrorist attacks were intentional barbaric attacks. How many Chinese nationals were killed in the WTC attack? You would think China would think more of its people than that.

The UN is salivating to get us into the International Court for "high crimes & misdemeanors" after this is over. The US will be made to look like the terrorists, not bin Laden.

"Clamp down on illegal immigration, without which this incident would have been much harder to execute. "

I can't escape the eerie feeling that, while this tragedy is absorbing all our national attention, creepy deals like Vicente Fox's border-porosity will slip through Congress for the sleaziest of reasons. Possible? I haven't heard anything yet, but what is underhanded business is being done behind the opaque doors of the Senate while nobody's watching?

Gee! We should go before the UN Security Council and lay out our plans and evidence to them. A really great idea since most of the members are in league with the terrorist states or are terrorist states that have continually voted against us.

Since the Korean War the Soviets were on the Council and we passed our military plans through them before implementing them. Until Gen. MacArthur planned and executed the Inchon landing, successfully, because they were caught off guard!

"You would think China would think more of its people than that."

Chinese history has shown exactly what the Chicom Govt. thinks of its people. ie, cultural revolution, forced abortions, extermination of religious groups, Mass executions. Just wait until the Chicoms have a chance to put a UN general in office.
