How is it that the Israeli lobby is so successful in playing both sides of the fence here in the U.S.? American Jews who overwhelmingly prefer Israel's interests over those of the U.S. tend to be liberal Democrats bordering on socialist. Yet Israel apparently enjoys broad support among well-known conservatives especially of the "religious right" persuasion.

Look to the media's influence on people.

Doesn't it seem strange to you that the massacre of upwards of nine million Ukrainians in the Artificial Famine of 1932-3 is basically unkown, in the U.S.? I saw the Diary of Anne Frank movie in around 1959, the nuns of our school had Anne Frank's father there to speak to us. From that point till now, I probably hear of the holocaust twice a month. Admittedly it is heinous beyond belief. But no less so is the intentional starvation of 1/4th of a nation! Why did I never hear of this event in history, through all the years of a U.S. education, through graduate school, and forty years of movies and T.V. shows, while still in the states?

Would it surprise you to know the New York Times squelched it, the reporter, Duranty lied about it. Times has never retracted.

It is not so completely unknown, not to mention Stalin's other crimes. Or Mao's. Neither is the Armenian holocaust. Or the holocaust of the Serbs by the Croats in WW II (1.2 million). Or the genocide Indonesia committed against East Timor. These are unknown only by those who rely solely upon what the public schools taught them and, if we did teach it, they wouldn't care anyway.

Many of these events are well-known here at FR, if not in the general population.
