Doesn't it seem strange to you that the massacre of upwards of nine million Ukrainians in the Artificial Famine of 1932-3 is basically unkown, in the U.S.? It is not so completely unknown, not to mention Stalin's other crimes. Or Mao's. Neither is the Armenian holocaust. Or the holocaust of the Serbs by the Croats in WW II (1.2 million). Or the genocide Indonesia committed against East Timor. These are unknown only by those who rely solely upon what the public schools taught them and, if we did teach it, they wouldn't care anyway.

Many of these events are well-known here at FR, if not in the general population.

But that is my point. It graphically, glaringly, illustrates the myopic view of our education and media. We grew up thinking that America was an open free society, with free access to all information. A spirit of open search for the truth. But there is a blinder on one eye! Or should we say a mote in both eyes.

When I started seeing the "kill all Palestinian" posts here, months ago, I felt it was only the people with close connections and affection for Israel speaking from their emotion and rage. Ideally I'd like to se a few of them admit that some Jews did some horrendous things in the years prior to the second world war. I'd like to see hollywood do a movie on the Ukrainian incident, maybe a movie on Gertrude Bell and the days of Britain dividing up the middle east.

At least I'd like to see other Americans, not so close to this conflict, admit our media is quite lacking in balanced information about peoples of the middle east. I'd like them to be more well informed. Then they can make better decisions about what is in America's best interest and not be so influenced by people who have a dual loyalty problem.
