Bill Mahr Has To Go. Here Are Sponsors For Tonight's Show.
ABC | 9/20/01 | Me

Posted on 09/19/2001 10:18:26 PM PDT by TheLurkerX

First, here are sponsors for Politically Incorrect that need to hear from us, and which we need to boycott if they don't follow in the shoes of Sears and Fedex.

Chevy (2 ads, which is sad given their American image), Corona, Publix Food Stores, Sprint, Mastercard, Trojan, Meineke (2 ads), Kia, Nicorette, Rich's, Adams Bodysmarts, Movies The Others (2 ads) & Hearts in Atlantis (2 ads).

That said:

You know, a shady semi apology in light of 2 major sponsors pull outs and tons of public backlash just doesn't ring sincere to me.

Couple that with the glancing around on top of the backpedaling, and the surly, defensive tone he used as the show went on, and I hate him more now than I did earlier.

OK, Bill, you said that it wasn't the courageous people of the military you called cowards, but the politicians who kept them from doing their jobs, and that it's your duty as a patriot to dissent and question government. I damn sure didn't hear an apology for talking about the courage of the killers. I did hear you call all of us who criticized you in outrage a bunch of cowards for blowing a buzz word out of proportion. Then you proceeded to blame the government for this for not doing their job.

I'm sorry Bill, but the blame from our government doesn't carry half the weight that the killers do. The ones you said aren't cowards.

Half a$$ed insincere atatements aren't going to save you from our outrage, or save your career. I hope that you are soon lucky to get a job similar to the role you had in D.C. Cab years ago. I hope you get run out of town on a rail for being the stinking pile of rat feces you are.

Good work! Thanks. Now for the e-mail addresses and toll-free telephone numbers!

You're forgiven and/or excused for watching Maher, since you were "on duty"!!

He's an ugly little man with an even uglier personality. Barbara's death obvious meant NOTHING to the bastard. I wouldn't watch his show if you paid me, but I won't buy a Thing from the sponsors...thanks for posting them.

Never mind the advertisers for Maher...Though FED EX & Sears just dumped him, his producers should line up others to take their place.

No, in order to sink Maher & Politically Incorrect, you need only work LOCALLY on that.

You see, your local station that carries the show is not under any great obligation to ABC to broadcast it because of its follow through. Even though its LEAD IN is Nightline, PI is most usually the last network feed local stations get from ABC until GMA in the morning, so local programming usually fills the airwaves after Maher signs off.

All you need do is start visiting your bigger local advertisers (ie; car dealers, furniture & appliance stores, etc) and emphasize to them how they need to pull the plug on many of the local stations programs that they advertise on if the local ABC station doesnt pull the plug on PI...It wont kill them to start airing their re-runs of NYPD Blue or Seinfeld a half hour sooner (after Koppel) anyway, so its a decent bet your voice will be heard & you'll be rid of sourpuss Maher!

Everyone should take a minute to use a search engine (Google), find one sponsor's website, look for the "contact us" icon, and send an e-mail requesting that the company discontinue its sponsorship of the show. I just did Chevy and Publix; only took a couple of minutes.

Here's the text of the letter I sent to the sponsors, considering most had memorials on their sites.

Hello:

I was appalled to see you still sponsoring Politically Incorrect with Bill Mahr after the comments he made about the WTC tragedy. First calling our military cowardly, and then backpedaling tonight under heavy fire, he tries to say now that he finds the men/women of the military courageous, but our politicians cowardly. He expressed his sentiment that the terrorists who commited this act were not cowards at all, and then called all of us who took offense to his comments, cowards as well. How a company with your American image and patriotic sentiments for the tragedy can back this man is beyond me. I'm trying to start a boycott of all sponsors who continue to support Bill Mahr's program. I hope you reconsider your decision.

Sincerely,

Kevin L. Covington

An additional approach is to question our conservative friends as to why they bother to go on this show and give it any air of legitimacy. Check out this past thread on this issue.

Ok...thanks for the link...I could find it, I just stink at HTML to post it for others.

Chevy duely freeped..."Dear Sirs, Baseball, apple pie, Chevrolet...and Bill Mahr? Please, as Sesame Street characters sing; One of these things is different than the others, one of these things doesn't belong...". By sponsoring Politically Incorrect, you are giving yourself a bad reputation! Anyone who, at times like these calls our U.S. leadership and soldiers "cowards" and calls the creeps that flew nearly 300 civilians into civilian targets "brave" should not be supported, much less sponsored by the Chevrolet bow tie logo. By association, you are giving yourself very bad press. I have owned 8 cars in the past 20 years of driving. 7 of them were GM products and the other (non-GM) one was a used car that was a heap of junk. Of the 7 GM products, 4 were Chevys and my current car is a '98 Monte Carlo Z. I love Chevrolet, as evidenced by my support of Chevrolet Racing in every venue and through my purchases of your excellent vehicles. Also, I'm planning to make my next vehicle a Chevy. With all this in mind, I respectfully ask you to reconsider sponsoring anti-american rhetoric, as spewed by the ilk of Bill Mahr. He doesn't like this nation, it's founding documents, or our current President and takes every opportunity to undermine this great nation of ours. Putting your name next to his is not in your best interests and undermines the pride of the bow tie symbol as Mr. Mahr undermines this nation and our national pride. Thank you for listening to my perspective. I pray that you will re-evaluate your support of Mr. Mahr's un-American rhetoric. Respectfully,"

now...on top the others...i love doin' this stuff!

Here's the letter I've sent to all sponsors that I've been able to contact by e-mail. I'm writing to urge you to follow Federal Express and Sears in permanently pulling your advertisement from Politically Incorrect hosted by Bill Maher. On the Tuesday evening show he called the members of our military forces cowards and said that those who crashed the planes into the Pentagon and WTC were real warriors. That's truly vile. Since the show isn't broadcast live he had plenty of time to rethink and delete those thoughts if he had realized they were as tasteless and inappropriate as they were. Apparently neither Bill Maher nor the producers felt anything was wrong with the ideas expressed by Bill Maher about our military and the terrorist who killed over 5,000 people and probably wounded another 5,000 in the attack. You can add to the toll of those the warriors in Bill Marers eyes injured the 100,000+ people who have or are about to loose their jobs. His apology which changes totally the meaning of what he said on the air was only issued in my opinion because he already lost two sponsors and didn't want to lose more of them.

You always point us to the obvious! Sure, Maher is a mouthpiece-always has been and always will be. But more than that he does little to lift the confusion as to why he is even on TV.
