"NBC Nightly News" anchorman Tom Brokaw sought to deflect criticism of ex-President Clinton Wednesday morning in the wake of last week's terrorist attacks, saying that President Bush and the GOP also deserve blame for not making terrorism as issue during last year's presidential campaign.
"I do think that it was a failure of (the Clinton) administration not to take it on. But it wasn't a high priority of this administration either coming into office," Brokaw told radioman Don Imus.
"I mean, George W. Bush didn't make fighting terrorism a big part of his campaign at all," the anchorman complained. "You know, they were talking about reorganizing the U.S. military but we haven't heard anything about -- "We've got to secure this country against a terrorist attack.'"
Next the NBC anchor turned his ire towards Republican congressional leaders. "God knows, on Capitol Hill one expert after another, one commission after another went up there when Republicans were in charge and said, 'They're coming. We're vulnerable. We could take a terrible hit.'"
Brokaw also said the media share blame for not giving enough coverage to the attack on the U.S.S. Cole and the trial of 1993's World Trade Center bombers.
The NBC News anchor's defense of the ex-president came just hours after his own interview with Clinton, who blamed the CIA for implementing restrictions on spy recruitment that experts now say helped the Twin Tower terrorists conceal their plans.
Who the hell do you think you are, trying to place the blame for the latest tragedy on President George W. Bush???? Answer me (as well as many, many other Americans)!!!!!!!!
I'm tired of you, as well as many of your media cronies, constantly trying to minimize and down our President. Yet you have the gall to want to interview Bill Clinton and call him President Clinton!!!! He happens to be EX-President Clinton, thank God!!!!!
That scumbag Clinton did all he could in those 8 years to undermine our freedom-loving country, to sell/give our military and financial secrets to enemies of our country, to only "attempt" to bomb the terrorists when it was convenient (when he needed some excuse to get the antics with his latest bimbo off the news and the front pages).
Whether you realize it or not, many of us Americans no longer even waste our time watching you and your other liberal media-brats. Wake up - it's high time to respect President Bush!!!! It's time to stand up for America and to do all we can to preserve the precious few freedoms we have. If you don't feel that way, I cordially invite you to get a one-way ticket to any country of our choice on the face of the planet!!!! I'll even offer to buy your (one-way) ticket!!!!!!! God bless America!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
(my name)

How on earth does an administration make enough changes to idiotic policies in 8 months to be effective?
The question for Mr. Brokaw is: without this attack would you and liberal press have supported changes in the assassination and 'shady character' policies that existed from previous administrations? Answer: Hell NO, and we all know it. Democrats react .... it's their nature. It's time to start being proactive ... and that means taking the fight TO THE ENEMY!
I disagree, unless it is to say they did not condemn the administration for not going after the terrorists in response to WTC #1, the US embassy attacks and the USS Cole.
Walk around them as you would walk around vomit on the street.

As a main stream media representative you are complicit in withholding information regarding the terrorist threats to the United States of America. Your admission to Mr. Imus that news coverage was not as it should be, certainly indicates that your network decided an agenda of political allegiance was more important than an allegiance to the people of the United States.
By blaming then GOVERNOR BUSH for not discussing the threat of terrorism in his campaign, while then PRESIDENT CLINTON and VICE PRESIDENT GORE were privy to the information garnered by federal agencies is a pitiful example of cynical adherence to personal political ideology and deliberate blindness to the faults of the previous administration. Why did you not discuss the fact that VICE PRESIDENT GORE, who was privy to this type of information, did not bring up this threat during his campaigning?
Also, deflection of responsibility for campaign topics such as these, especially during the debates, falls solidly with the news media hosting the debates. Another avenue you might consider exploring.
The previous administration was never questioned in a forthright, thorough manner by your network or the other mainstream networks regarding their response to the terrorist attacks perpetrated during their tenure, nor where they ever thoroughly examined regarding preparations against terrorist threats to the United States of America or other countries.
The mainstream media accepted emoting performances of sympathy and empathy to substitute for investigative reporting.
At one time investigative reporting was a main component of journalism and that supposedly was a component of mainstream newscasts.
Your behavior coupled with that of Mr. Jennings and Mr. Rather is illustrative of performance journalism, news readers, personal ideologies that disillusions us, because we cannot trust your reporting to be solidly objective and that is what matters most in reportage.
