Swaziland has banned single young women from having sex for five years in a bid to fight the spread of Aids.
A chastity rite has been revived and maidens will also be expected not to shake hands or wear pants.
Any man who contravenes Umchwasho, the maidens' chastity rule also called Flower of the Nation, will be fined one cow, or £150.
King Mswati III announced the ruling during national celebrations for his 33rd birthday party. Virgins would be required to wear blue and black "do not touch me" tassels. Women already in relationships and those who are older than 19 would be expected to wear red with black tassels, reports The Guardian, Swaziland.
The ban has met with a 'mixed response' by men, according to local reports.
"We have just held our annual reed dance ceremony where Umchwasho was revived," the King told his audience in Nhlangano.
"This tradition plays a pivotal role in ensuring that our young girls preserve their virginity."
"We sincerely hope that this tradition will assist us in fighting the HIV/AIDS pandemic that is wiping our youth away."
He added that the country's chronic unemployment rate also led to idle people occupying themselves with sex.

Just get an American wife (ouch!)

Really - We've been married ten years and we've had sex twice. My wife tells me that's pretty good.
Right?
Right?

I think it's a goofy idea. Kind of like banning guns to prevent crime. When you outlaw sex, only the outlaws will have sex. What do you think JJ?

One moment, I need to go out back and count my cows.
I wonder what the livestock exchange rate for cows is? I only have six chickens and a goat. Would that count as well?

Probably more prostitution and sodomy is all that will result from this. If even that much.
To be effective in combatting AIDS, both sexes must observe chastity until marriage. However, given that African medical practices are so backward (re-use of needles hundreds of times without sterilization), this is probably almost completely useless.
