I hope those entrusted with the public safety are as creative in their thinking as some of the posts I've read.
Capitalism at its finest, ideas like this should do wonders for the bottom line no doubt. Sure makes me want to go out and invest my hard-earned cash on airline stocks, what with all the profit this will bring.
EXCELLENT QUESTION and one which we ALL need to address to our elected "leaders."
Unless, of course, there's some OTHER reason they don't want an armed populace capable of defending themselves.
"...nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation."
The FAA, unconstitutionaly, required the airlines, not to allow a passenger on their planes if that passenger was exerting their Second Amendment right, when boarding an aircraft.
This regulation is directly responsible for a group of thugs to commandeer an aircraft with knives and turn it into a bomb.
Since this regulation has "spooked" paying customers away from the airlines, the airlines must be compensated.
Remember, the regulation was enacted for "public safety."
Now, maybe the U.S. taxpayer will demand less regulations from their Congress when the cost of those regulations are properly borne by the taxpayer as additional taxes.

A well-regulated militia being essential to the security of a free state. . . ." The next time someone tells you that the militia referred to in the Second Amendment has been "superceded" by the National Guard, ask them who it was that prevented United Airlines Flight 93 from reaching its target. The National Guard? The regular Army? The D.C. Police Department? None of these had a presence on Flight 93 because, in a free society, professional law-enforcement and military personnel cannot be everywhere. Terrorists and criminals are well aware of this. Who is everywhere? The people the Founders referred to as the "general militia." Cell-phone calls from the plane reveal that it was members of the general militia, not organized law enforcement, who successfully prevented Flight 93 from reaching its intended target at the cost of their own lives. Had these citizen-heroes been armed, none of the hijackings would have happened much less succeeded.
The characterization of these heroes as members of the militia is not just an opinion. It is clearly stated in Federal statutes. If you do not believe me, please read Section 311 of US Code Title 10, entitled, "Militia: composition and classes", in its entirety.
...then they'd all want to come over to 'our' side.
Reminds me of what America once was, and why everyone wanted to come here...
