The WTC's and that whole financial area is my husband's place of work, where he's spent his career....He walks ground zero everyday but on that morning he witnessed the planes crashing from across the Hudson, unable (THANK GOD) to get in to work because he was delayed by 15 mins of traffic, The Port Authority had just stopped the trains just in time (he was trying to get on one)
Many of my husband's partners were in their offices that day, and stood (like you in disbelief) of what they were seeing. Their building had shook badly from the first & second plane hitting... They stood by their office windows and just stared in shock. Their building is so close, it's closed off and in the "red zone" as they refer to it.
His partners & staff didn't evacuate till the 2nd plane hit, and many of them witnessed the people hitting the ground from 80+ stories up.
They are haunted.
But then we are all HAUNTED by this in whatever way we experienced this....and I believe that some GOOD must come from this horror.

The staff at our Cortlandt Street offices had similar experiences. I am glad I missed such sights. Your husband's coworkers are in for some sleepless nights, I am very sorry to say. I am happy to report, however, that our 400+ staff escaped unscathed. A bit of good news in the midst of the horror.
