GOD DID IT, PART II

GOD DID IT, PART II: Reader Randall Parker calls my attention to this Worldnet Daily article by Anthony C. LoBaido, which makes Jerry Falwell's offensive theodicy look sophisticated and kind. A small sample:

Is New York the head of the "Great Satan"? All that is evil in the world can be found in New York: MTV, the United Nations, the U.N. abortion programs, the Council on Foreign Relations, New Age Church of St. John the Divine, Wall Street greed, Madison Avenue manipulation and of course more confirmed AIDS cases than the rest of America combined. Let's remember the filthy sodomite gay parade last summer in New York. Let's remember all the New York politicians falling all over themselves to praise this sick spectacle.

And let's not forget that New Yorkers elected—by a landslide—the openly Marxist, treasonous and abortion-mongering, occultic Hillary to a Senate seat. All while fully knowing what she was all about.

So are we all innocent here in New York? Are we innocent with our porno, drugs, filthy Jay Leno monologues, our idolatry, materialism and consumerism? Innocent when Republican Governor George Pataki stands next to the blood-stained dictator of Communist China as he rings the opening bell for the stock market on Wall Street?...

Can the remnant in America help but honestly ask themselves: Is this the fulfillment of Revelation chapters 17 and 18 (Mystery Babylon) or has God raised up Shiite Islam as a sword against America?

These guys should apologize to their fellow Americans, but first they should apologize to God. Since WND chooses to end the piece with a plug for my friend Hugh Hewitt's book, implicating Hugh in the article's sentiment, I've asked Hugh for a response. I hope he will cancel his Worldnet Daily column. Free speech is essential as government policy, but there are some people, as Ramesh Ponnuru puts it in this excellent column, whom civilized people should not let into our houses. Not only LoBaido but the editors who published him should be shunned. [Posted 9/15.]

Please enlighten me. Why did God kill the good chaplain on the eleventh day of the ninth month of the current year if not simply because he was part of the price for our sins?

If his car was hit by a drunk driver would it have made a difference?

He did not die for our sin but possibly because of them..there is a big difference..

How many babies were aborted this year..do you have as much outrage for them?

I am most certainly outraged at the loss of life which abortion causes.... but I'm going to ask you to think once again here.

Did God snuff out the lives of the innocent children on the planes in a horrible flaming death.... to teach us a lesson for abortion?

Did God murder children, because WE do?

Does that make any sense at all?

Any?

C'mon... think.

Maybe.... (just maybe) the God you worship, endowed you with the gift of free will. And the actions of this life (and their consequences) are not controlled by God, but by men.

Makes a whole helluva lot more sense then blaming "God's judgement" for all of the horrible and evil acts of this world. Doesn't it?

The murder of innocent children is evil.

A loving God cannot also commit evil.

Satan is constantly begging God for permission to wreak havoc. Sometimes God says yes.

Falwell was talking about tranformation of America as a shining city on a hill to a filthy cesspool in the gutter. Most FR posts back up the assessment he made. Is it possible that we are no longer a nation favored by God?

I can't understand those that refuse to see the true nature of Islam ( destroy all non believers) and the true nature of Americas' decline (party till ya puke).

We shall see.-MM

They weren't judged by God, they were executed by Usama bin Laden. You do God no service by blaming him for the evil that bin Laden has perpetrated on Americans.

Exactly.

Why is this simple point so difficult to understand?

Those of you who can baffle the hell out of me.

The way I choose to look at it is that sometimes God allows a great evil to bring about a greater good. Trying to read more into it would seem folly to me. Also I didn't think that one up by myself; I heard E. Michael Jones express that in an entirely different context.

You can usually pick these nuts out of the crowd when they quote the OT exclusively, without mention of the NT. It's like quoting the Articles of Confederation while talking about the Constitution.

God sent his only son to die for our sins, so that we who believe in him shall have everlasting life. God doesn't punish nations anymore, he looks in to the hearts of men. If God is judging me not on my faith, but on what country I live in then all four Gospels are lying about how to get to heaven.

Once and for all: America is NOT Babylon. The Muslim countries are Babylon, and I have studied enough of prophetic scriptures to be sure of this information.

Each Godly nation is represented in the Bible as an animal. The United States is represented as an Eagle! England is represented as a Lion. I find this interesting in light of the fact that both of these nations have as their national symbols, the Eagle and the Lion, respectively.

However, the ungodly nations are named by the spirit which influences them. Gog and Magog are two of the most well known. They represent China and Russia.

Remember this, when Jesus taught us how to pray, He taught us the prayer in Matthew. One of the lines in the prayer is "Your will be done on earth, AS IT IS IN HEAVEN".

Now, will someone please tell me if they think God destroys buildings in heaven and kills 5000 people?? God cannot bring to earth what He does not have. There is nothing evil in heaven, therefore, God cannot bring evil to the earth.

God is not in the destroying business; God is in the restoration business. He sent Jesus to die for us, so He could restore His relationship with us.

I said eithor God caused it or he allowed it..I see little difference in the statements..If God allows it,it is to achieve His purpose, and in effect by not stopping it he caused it to happen.

One is direct intervention and the other indirect..both or eithor achieve His purposes.

Just as God allowed Job to lose everything..He did not cause it..but He gave Satan permission to do it

Eithor God is in charge or He is not

RmMomof7,
I understand your point of view on this issue, and frankly it makes a lot of sense. For what it's worth, the verse that keeps coming to my mind is "to whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required." (somewhere in Luke, I think).

Our nation has been blessed tremendously by God, and we have squandered that blessing. I have been a member of Free Republic for quite some time now, and every day people in this forum are decrying the fallen state of America. Granted, they speak in secular terms about the loss of liberty, the squandering of our Consititutional rights, the immorality of Hollywood, and on an on. Yet these same people find it impossible to accept that God, the giver of these rights, would judge this nation for its sins.

Is it possible that God would use Islamic fundamentalists as an instrument of His judgment? All I can say is that the Bible plainly states that God used the Philistines as an instrument of his judgment against ancient Israel, and the Philistines were into human sacrifice for Pete's sake! We are all heartsick over the tragedies that occurred last week. We mourn with the rest of the nation. Who knows if there was an element of God's judgment in all of this? No one can say with certainty. But it does seem plausible.

You are a prisoner of your own gross ignorance and self-deception.

You're certainly familiar with those two traits.

Religious fundamentalism is dangerous, whatever form it takes.

----

Not to mention, this line of reasoning totally begs the question. Did God smite a gay sodomite club? Did God have bin Laden bomb a porn house? Were all those cases of people with AIDs slaughtered as an example to the rest of the world to repent and turn away from evil? Of course not. The people we're mourning are true heroes - firemen, police officers, mothers, fathers, children, tourists -- all of whom were in the wrong place at the wrong time. God may indeed choose to punish America for her slouchign towards Gommorrah, but I sincerely doubt the way he will do it is to allow the murders off innocent people guilty of nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

There is no difference to you between Jerry Falwell and the individuals who just murdered over 5000 of our countrymen?

The difference is that Jerry Falwell lacks a terrorist network.

Since you seem to know the mind of God, could you tell me what criteria He uses to decide?

Hmm, just think where we would be if Osama Bin Laden's mother had aborted him...

He hadn't done anything yet. If you want to do a really, really late term abortion, that's another matter.

Little children die in car acidents caused by drunk drivers..are you outraged at that ?

I am, but are you? Then who are you mad at, the drunk or God for allowing it to happen?
