Ann Coulter Calls Christian Soldiers to Arms
In a country full of people eager for vengeance and with an ample supply of commentators, Ann Coulter can safely take the prize for the most hateful reaction to appear in print. Her column, which appeared on the right-wing National Review Online, ostensibly is a tribute to her friend Barbara Olson -- another frequent on-air commentator and writer who died in one of the hijacked airplanes on Tuesday -- but quickly devolves into something more akin to a call for a Crusade (or is that jihad?). We know who the homicidal maniacs are, she wrote referring to the Muslim states suspected of harboring those responsible for the attacks. They are the ones cheering and dancing right now. We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.
And as inflammatory and outrageous as these sentiments certainly are, the National Review's editor said he was more or less OK with what she had to say.
The column was obviously written with some degree of anger, rage, and grief and she probably went a little far on certain things but the essential point I think is accurate that the most drastic possible measures are called for, says Rich Lowry, editor of the National Review. What Ann is expressing is something a lot of Americans feel in such situations which is ... once the country is aroused were in for the full pound.
Such extreme sentiments, like Coulters, are hardly in short supply. Thursday's New York Post offered this assessment: "This is war. It needs to be prosecuted as such. The men behind the men who rained havoc on New York and Washington need to be called to account. The heavens need to fall on their heads. They need to bleed. Not next month. Not next week. Now. Who are they? Who cares? Cast a wide enough net, and youll catch the fish that need catching."

So what now?? Kill everybody and convert??? That is the Islam belief, so let's turn it around on 'em I say.
Convert or Die. That's what THEY have been practicing for hundreds of years. It's time they died.

What is it with these people? We lose thousands, and we're supposed to retaliate by not lighting the national Christmas tree?

I'm curious. Have any of you islamic yeehaaders ever read the Koran? I find it a nearly incomprehensible collection of repetitive phrases that contradicts itself every other page. Most scholars agree. And I'm sure you read the Koran with a completely open mind.
Perhaps you could enlighten us as to why a religion based on the supposed writings of a prophet whose main purpose seemed to be killing all of his opponents (unlike Christ who died for his opponents) is worthy of much respect.
Ever read the Old Testament? Seems I remember a lot of God-sponsored killing going on there. Who was the the God of the Old Testament, anyway? Allah?

Ah, yes ... the bastion of liberal thought: National Review. According to them, invading the country that attacked us, killing their leaders, and converting the rest to Christianity = HATE. But is it all of those things -- or merely converting the rest to Christianity that they oppose so much?

Ammon-Centrist - I should have figured you would show up here. Always the level-headed, love is good and always right, pacifist.
If your daughters life had been cut short by the terrorist I'm confident you would change your tune.
Read Ecclesiastes 3:1 & 8. Tell me - Which two of the four "times" listed best describes these days?

Thanks for the kind words. I know you disagree, but I do thank you. God bless you.

That didn't prevent Coulter for being self-serving.Yes it would appear tha Ann was being self-serving. But if you knew her better, as a longtime reader, you would know that she needed to say that because it was truth that she could not hide. Her longtime readers and fans understand. Now I hope you do too.

I love Barbara Olson and I love Ann. In this column Ann expresses concisely how we all feeling about the lost of Barbara. This is a great evil that has come upon our land
but it is also possible to bring greater evil into the world if caution and patience is not exercised in redressing this diabolical threat. There is no doubt that we are at war, but we dont have to wage the war that bin Laden wants. He wants a crusade against him
and he may get it
but I would argue for some initial responses which would actually be more harmful to him and his cause. Im a graduate student of Middle East history who spent last year on a fellowship to Israel. Im not claiming this makes me an expert on what has gone on, but I do think I can offer some legitimate arguments for exercising some patience.

I have to concur with Ann. Hiroshima stopped the war and Japan became our friends. Besides saving alot of lives that would have been lost if we dealt with them weakly. Evil must be dealt with swiftly and decisively. They cannot stop themselves. Many nations 'converted' to Christianity, not because someone held a gun to their heads but because reality has that effect on people. Look at all the Americans suddenly going to church, suddenly asking questions they never would have asked before. Look at Dan Rather last nite!! (By the way, I don't belong to a church. Truth is my church and my path to God). Is free speech the first liberty to fall in this war?

I guess Ann should apologize for being a real woman. The sight is too shocking and frightens the little lily livered cowards on the left, that brave men have to fight and die for, so that they can continue their destructive goals that are far worse than anything Ben Ladin will ever be able to accomplish.

Ann never said we should "force" them to convert. (That's not conversion, anyway -- conversion comes from the heart.) Just to convert them.

This abomination could cry himself into a state of dehydration and it would never impress me unless he died from it.

It's silly to take Coulter literally. It was irony and hyperbole...unless observors deliberately refuse to understand, to enhance their air of victimhood.
Coulter could as easily have said, "Bomb them, kill them, then force them through bar mitzvah." The idea's the same--kill them, then seriously annoy them.
