I think you hit the nail on the head. As America 76 said no autopilot can land a plane, but a man on the ground can! Seems to me that this is a good Idea, the equipment can be made inaccesible, except from the out side, and it could be activated on the ground by a silent signal from the pilot. After that the person on the ground could bring it right in.
