Suggested reference materials:
1) Go to your area Boy Scout or Girl Scout Council shop to find copies of the Manuals.
2) Making the Best of Basics: Family Preparedness Handbook by James Talmadge Stevens
3) U.S. Army Survival Manual by the Dept. of Defense
4) Ranger Handbook by U.S. Army Infantry School
5) SAS Survival Guide by John Wiseman
6) SAS Survival Handbook by John Wiseman
7) The Complete Book of Survival : How to Protect Yourself Against Revolution, Riots, Hurricanes, Famines and Other Natural and Man-Made Disasters by Rainer Stahlberg
I have copies of manuals mentioned above (nos. 1,2,3,5,6) and can vouch for their usefulness, in terms of the scope and quality of information covered. As a homemaker, I found 2) to be personally very useful for many things I do on a daily or weekly basis to run a household.
If any of you have any comments regarding these manuals or any others you'd recommend, please post that information here. (Thank you!)

We very may well be. I guess I'm kind of naive. If someone came buy and wanted the food, I'd share with them. I had a neighbor who kept a gun in his food storage to shoot anyone who tried to take it. Again, I'd share it with whoever. God has said "If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear." I take him at his word.

I was just confronted with this type of storage a couple of months ago when i helped a friend move. I could not believe the supplies they had stashed. think i will call her first thing in the morning for help in gathering my own stash. thanks for the post.

Very, very good. Thanks for making the effort to post that valuable information!

Thanks for the list of manuals. I have
Making the Best of Basics: Family Preparedness Handbook by James Talmadge Stevens, and it is excellent. Here are a couple of more resources.
The Mormon church has a formal church camp program for its young women (ages 12 to 17.) The camp manual is an excellent resource guide to keep as a family. It shows how to make a sleeping bag out of blankets, how to build different kinds of fires, really good first aid information, etc. And it only costs $2.75. Here is the URL Young Women Camp Manual
And the church has also put together a brochure on food storage, it only costs 75 cents, but the information is invaluable. Here is the URL Essentials of Home Production and Storage

God has said "If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear." I take him at his word. So do I. I've kept a years supply of dehydrated for a family of 4 since 1975. Bubba's EO poked me in the eye when I read it.

We rotate our stock by making donations (of a few dozen or so cans) to local food banks when they are in dire need.
This way our entire stock can be rotated completely every 18 months, we never worry about getting caught short, and can support those less blessed than we are.
Everone wins.

Thank you for the list. How do you store sugar for a long period of time without it getting hard as a rock? I tried sealing it in Food Saver vacuum bags, but it got hard anyway.

Selah! Helping others in need is what America is about, when we're running properly.

Thank you so much for this list. I printed it out and am also going to send it in email to family and friends back in New York and New Jersey. Thanks again.
To: swheats, 68-69 Tonkin Gulf Club ,
I have seen on our local news channels here in Las Vegas a list they are telling us to have just in case. Batteries for radio's , bleach etc. I thought you might like to see this list that Utah Girl has posted as well.
Perhpas there are things on this list you might want to have in your homes just in case.
Not meant to scare anyone, but to be prepared for possible things that could happen. And needs to survive for your families.
We are one nation under God and I feel so confident that God will give wisdom and guidence to our leaders each day , each decision they have to make.
You are very dear to me and I just wanted to ping you for this list.
