Each Lunev's argument makes sense, considering that the author is a high-ranking intelligence figure (highly professional) who has decades of experience working in this capacity for Russians before his defection to the U.S.

I hate to say this but I believe I will live to see the detonation of a nuclear device within the continental United States.
I firmly believe it is not a matter of if, but when.

We must prepare for more casualties. Regardless of whether we respond, more Americans will be killed by the terrorists. The first question is whether we are going to fight back. The second question is whether we are going to fight those who are attacking us or whether we are going to attack innocent Americans trying to exercise their rights. Some would have us become more passive in the face of evil. I believe that they are foolish. Instead, we must fight those who have attacked us and remove them as a threat.

From now on, we know for sure that there are hundreds if not thousands of terrorists who are living among us in America.
They are preparing to continue the war against countries, which provide them hospitality, including dozens of so-called "sleepers" or specially trained terrorists who pretend to be U.S. citizens and residents. 24 hours a day, every day, they are waiting for the wake-up call from their organization leaders for a new attack against American people. Many Freepers and other Americans would place political correctness, touchy-feely multiculturalism, so called civil libertarianism, ABOVE national security. I favor taking off the rose colored glasses, and tending to first things first, like winning the war at hand.
That means rounding up suspected aliens on expired visas, sending muslim-arab foreign students home, and other measures. Yes, selective internments are a good idea, or optional voluntary deportation.
For those of short adult lives, or short memories, this stuff has been going on since at least the 1972 Munich Olympics. More or less regularly. We never become serious enough, to call it a war. Now we have. Let's put some meaning behind the words.

American citizens should be watchful about suspicious activities and not just by those of mideastern appearance and report to the authorities.
Citizens could form small cells and brainstorm about things around them that they might notice and twart. That would be more productive than infighting.

Dude sounds like a Republican FReeper.
Man, let him run the conjoined, new, expunged CIA/FBI after all the trecherous idiots are flushed out of those agencies. (There should be about two guys left afterward.)
This attack IS the Clinton Legacy.

I've been aware of the possibility for years; it's amazing the number of people who still don't get it.

I am continually amazed how easy the American government makes it for enemies to penetrate American society and institutions. I am also amazed how many American journalists dislike America, and openly work against this country. Our problem has always been that we do not know our true enemies--the media and the liberals, whether democrat or republican. Who has been a greater enemy to our freedom than Bill Clinton? Yet, he moves openly and unhindered. God help us!

This is the weak resolution the Senate is working on. Compare it to a real declaration of war from 1941SJ 22 ES
107th CONGRESS
1st Session
S. J. RES. 22
JOINT RESOLUTIONExpressing the sense of the Senate and House of Representatives regarding the terrorist attacks launched against the United States on September 11, 2001.
Whereas on September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked and destroyed four civilian aircraft, crashing two of them into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, and a third into the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C.;
Whereas thousands of innocent Americans were killed and injured as a result of these attacks, including the passengers and crew of the four aircraft, workers in the World Trade Center and in the Pentagon, rescue workers, and bystanders;
Whereas these attacks destroyed both towers of the World Trade Center, as well as adjacent buildings, and seriously damaged the Pentagon; and
Whereas these attacks were by far the deadliest terrorist attacks ever launched against the United States, and, by targeting symbols of American strength and success, clearly were intended to intimidate our Nation and weaken its resolve: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That Congress--
(1) condemns in the strongest possible terms the terrorists who planned and carried out the September 11, 2001, attacks against the United States, as well as their sponsors;
(2) extends its deepest condolences to the victims of these heinous and cowardly attacks, as well as to their families, friends, and loved ones;
(3) is certain that the people of the United States will stand united as our Nation begins the process of recovering and rebuilding in the aftermath of these tragic acts;
(4) commends the heroic actions of the rescue workers, volunteers, and State and local officials who responded to these tragic events with courage, determination, and skill;
(5) declares that these premeditated attacks struck not only at the people of America, but also at the symbols and structures of our economic and military strength, and that the United States is entitled to respond under international law;
(6) thanks those foreign leaders and individuals who have expressed solidarity with the United States in the aftermath of the attacks, and asks them to continue to stand with the United States in the war against international terrorism;
(7) commits to support increased resources in the war to eradicate terrorism;
(8) supports the determination of the President, in close consultation with Congress, to bring to justice and punish the perpetrators of these attacks as well as their sponsors; and
(9) declares that September 12, 2001, shall be a National Day of Unity and Mourning, and that when Congress adjourns today, it stands adjourned out of respect to the victims of the terrorist attacks.
Passed the Senate September 12, 2001.
Compare that wimpy drivel to this:
JOINT RESOLUTION
Declaring that a state of war exists between the Imperial Government of Japan and the Government and the people of the United States and making provisions to prosecute the same.
Whereas the Imperial Government of Japan has committed unprovoked acts of war against the Government and the people of the United States of America:
Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the state of war between the United States and the Imperial Government of Japan which has thus been thrust upon the United States is hereby formally declared;
and the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against the Imperial Government of Japan; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States.
Approved, December 8, 1941, 4:10 p.m. E.S.T.
Apparently there is some major funny business going on in the Senate, even in this time of "bi-partisanship".
I am disgusted.
Please US House save us from this insult to all who have died.

The answer to when we start fighting against the terrorists is that we started fighting about ten oclock on Tuesday morning. By their actions to take the plane by force from the terrorists, the passengers of United Flight 93 began Americas fight against these terrorists. While they died in the effort, they won the fight. They denied the terrorists the use of that plane to kill more Americans. Those actions made them heroes, and we honor them for beginning the fight. You are so right. Thanks for the article and the link.
I'd only add that the heroes can now be counted across the country. All the people coming together and throwing down the gauntlet of division to fight this common enemy. All the firefighters, police officers and Red Cross Volunteers desperately trying to save victims, all the blood donors lining up at hospitals to give, all the patriots buying new flags, whether needed or not, all the young men and women lining up to volunteer in the Armed Services. It goes on and on. It brings this proud man to tears.
You are correct, the battle has begun. We are united as in the days of old. The unity reminds me of a favorite quote from a favorite President.
Enjoy it:
"Now again we hear the echoes from our past: A general falls to his knees in the hard snow of Valley Forge; a lonely President paces the darkened halls, and ponders his struggle to preserve the Union; the men of the Alamo call out encouragement to each other; a settler pushes west and sings a song, and the song echoes out forever and fills the unknowing air.
It is the American sound. It is hopeful, big-hearted, idealistic, daring, decent, and fair. Thats our heritage and that is our song. We sing it still today. For all our problems, our differences, we are together as in days of old, as we raise our voices to God who is the author of this most tender music. And may He continue to hold us close as we fill the world with our sound, the sound in unity, affection, and love. One people under God, dedicated to the dream of freedom that he has placed in the human heart. Called upon now to pass that dream on to the waiting and hopeful world."
