I am very proud of all those flying flags...I have never been more proud of the great symbol of our land.

I've got my flag up, and my flag lapel pin holding one of the red-white-and-blue ribbons a local TV station is giving away for Red Cross donations.

I went to a couple of stores to buy some small American flags today, and they were sold out.

That's one thing I'm glad there's a run on.

What is the etiquette to show mourning with a flag that can't be lowered (like most flags displayed on private homes)? Is my recollection accurate that black streamers should be attached to the end of the staff? Is tomorrow (Friday) to be a national day of mourning?

I led my troops, I was dirty, battle worn and tired, but my soldiers cheered me and I was proud.
I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free.
It does not hurt, for I am invincible.
I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my country.
And when its by those whom I've served in battle - it hurts.
But I shall overcome - for I am strong.
I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space.
From my vantage point on the moon I have borne silent witness to all of America's finest hours.
But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield, when I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldiers, or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter, I am proud.

But the way I figure it, these folks meant no disrespect.

You're clearly right. I forgot to bring my own flag in until about an hour after sundown.

If people didn't respect the flag, they wouldn't be flying it at all.

Upon hearing about this we immediately put two little flags out and a large one. My socialist neighbor with her two year old tried her best to ignore it. Yeah, a former public school teacher pushing immorality down the throats of kids. I guarantee you she is worried about what the politically correct response. The reason I say this, is because during Halloween last year, she was practically hysterical about whether or not her son wore a politically correct costume or not and what was the right politically correct costume. Sad, isn't? Someone like this was teaching kids silliness.

How do you fly Old Glory at half staff when you have a 6' pole at 45 degrees on a non-adjustable bracket? Any help would be appreciated.

Let us hope and pray that America's children and all future generations of Americans understand the history, meaning, and symbolism of our Flag - independently of whatever PC movement is afoot.

The many who have given their last full measure deserve nothing less.

Remember the words of Henry Hyde, " ... the Flag is falling. Catch the Flag."

Always display Old Glory with the pride and strength that is this Nation.

To remedy the most common mistake I saw yesterday:

When displaying the flag against a wall, vertically or horizontally, the flag's union (stars) should be at the top, to the flag's own right, and to the observer's left.
