What effect will the bombings have on the plans for amnesty for millions of Mexicans?

This topic has virtually dropped off the radar, understandably, yet it is very important. Hard to realize that 48 hours ago we were all engaged in discussing Gary "what's-his-name" and all the trial balloons that were being floated to provide some type of amnesty for millons of Mexicans? Can this happen now? Has the political dynamic changed? It seems silly to me to eliminate plastic knives on airplanes, and no longer have curbside check in, yet have open borders? And one thing the

government could, and should do, immediately, is detain , if not deport those who arrive here illegally and request amnesty. Now, many are just turned loose, and told to report in months for a hearing, which they never do.
It was only a few days ago that Mexico's president Fox was TELLING the US congress that they had to do something immediately. I can't see that happening now. And how in Go'ds name can we have an open border with Mexico, if Mexico can't control its own borders?

very good post
The FOX takeover did not go over too well with the US public .... in fact it went over like a lead balloon .... I'm sure rove, hughes and fleischer (the brain center of the adm.), in a sick kind of way, welcome this horror as POLITICAL COVER. Sorry, but it is true.

I remember something that I read on FR early on as these tragic events were originally unfolding. A reporter tried to get Fox to comment on them (I believe he may still have been in the U.S. on Tuesday, not absolutely sure). Reportedly, Fox refused to comment and looked absolutely sick at the turn of events. I am guessing he was aware that the U.S. public's reaction to terrorism would also spill over to other immigration and doom his big plans for guest workers and amnesty on a large scale.

Illegals who are willing to demonstrate their loyalty to America by a record of working, not sponging off society and not harboring La Raza illusions of conquest can be given the option of amnesty for their immediate family in return for enlistment.

No.
It will get very tough, very soon, for aliens without papers.

Our borders, North and South, should be militarized immediately. There can be no doubt that these same terrorists would attempt to bring weapons of mass destruction into our country as soon as they obtained them.
Our border security is a joke. The sealing of the borders over the last couple of days is merely symbolic. It's like locking the main gate of a huge, unfenced forest preserve in order to keep the teenagers out. It's laughable.
It's time for our government to get serious about our security.

I have a very distinct feeling that Fox is praying that none of these terrorists crossed over into the U.S. via Mexico. Mexico has and continues to allow illegals from other nations to transit Mexico on their way to the U.S. Included among these "non-Mexican" illegals are hundreds of people from the mid-east. The INS has documented Mexican smuggling organizations which "specialize" in non-Mexican illegals... and I'm sure that Fox is aware of this as well. You can well imagine the public outrage if it is learned that any of these terrorists utilized the "Mexican Connection" for access to the U.S. This won't bode real well for Bush either but our border became most porous under Clinton and his corrupt administration.

What effect will the bombings have on the plans for amnesty for millions of Mexicans? Hopoefully it will galvanize our useless government to kick their backsides back to where they came from along with their Mexican and El Salvidor flags that they put on their vehicles. If those places are so great why are they here?

It was the Canadian border that was closed. Reports I saw linked two of the terrorists to addresses in Canada.
We should shut down both borders BUT this is starting to look like the Judeo Christian world against Islam. The Islamic world is young and full of young men ready to take their place as soldiers. Most (all?) western Christian nations are old, Mexico and south have young populations and I want them on our side.

He is a charming man. Handsome too. Maybe a little too charming. If you like number and word puzzles ----> Notice the letter of the alphabet position:
F = 6 .. O = 1+5 .. X = 2+4
yikes !!!! Like I said, he seems to be a democratice type leader but .... WOW !! you figure it out !!

I'm against broad amnesty, I'm against wide open borders but I think what the Islamic people are doing to us should not influence in any way our relationship with the Mexican people. Totally, completely separate issues in my mind.

The Mexican border here was actually shut down for about an hour last night. The news reported that the Mexican government told us to completely shut down the bridges. Apparently there was a power-out in that city but it turned out not to be related so they reopened them, very long lines of people trying to get back to Mexico and into the US.

The question is, how many Mexicans will WANT amnesty when they realize that to become American citizens means being eligible for the draft WHEN war is declared????
To: ken5050
They just arrested folks in Germany associated with the bombing. And the news said that these "Turks" came into Germany through their 'GUEST WORKER' program, which sounds a whole lot like that special deal Bush was ginning up for the Mexicans.
