White House, Air Force One possible targets

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The White House said Wednesday it has "reasonable and credible" information that the White House and Air Force One were targets of Tuesday's terrorist attack on the nation's capital.

"We have real and credible information that the airplane that landed at the Pentagon was originally intended for the White House," White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said in a late Wednesday afternoon briefing.

Why is this being made a small story?

Geez, after all the complaining by the media and certain elements here on FR that the President should be in DC instead of being elsewhere.

Good thing very few people take either element seriously. Good story.

Can someone explain how AF1 would be attacked?

I'm sure they knew where the Pres was that morning. DO you thik something happened in Florida that we have not heard about after he took off?

Easy ... one shoulder-launched "Stinger" missle at a low and slow moving AF1 (e.g., landing and take-off).

P.S., The United States supplied many of same to Afgan rebels while they were fighting the USSR.

Was it just me,or did you all get the distinct impression the press wasn't buying the "credible report" that AF1 and the WH were targets??
