Debate 5-6 Armed Citizens on every airline!! What do you think?

ALERT: Now Is The Time for Americans to Defend America

Everybody in America now knows that on Tuesday, September 11, three aircraft were crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. These crashes appeared timed and were part of a planned terrorist action. The death toll will likely exceed that caused by the Imperial Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that started World War II. This coordinated attack was an act of war.

Some years ago Israel bombed a nuclear plant in Iraq. World opinion largely condemned Israel's actions, but Israel warned that if the world does not get rid of Iraq's terror threat, then that threat will get worse.

Welcome to worse.

We don't now know whether the terrorist attack on the U.S. came from Iraq. We don't know whether more attacks will come, or how or where.

We know that terrorists have repeatedly promised to attack U.S.population centers. The airliners carried nothing but unarmed and undefended people.

The common factor: "undefended."

What renders Americans undefended? The idea that "we don't need to defend ourselves" -- the culture of disarmament -- delivered to the terrorists many thousands of potential aircraft full of people who had *no* means to stop an onboard terrorist. Even the pilots and crew were federally guaranteed to be unable to resist hijackers by force.

What rendered the Pentagon, an obvious military target, undefended? The belief that it didn't need defending against air attack. The people inside were victims of government decisions not to provide defense against relatively easy attacks from the air.

All of the air attack victims are victims of government decisions not to expose, disrupt or wipe out aggressors who have announced their intentions to attack America.

As a nation, we have put all of our safety eggs into the basket of government and military. That's a mistake.

You will soon hear proposals to impose "heightened domestic security." Some will call for martial law. Many more will urge complete disarmament of Americans, "just to make sure" that the terrorist threat is reduced.

We can expect to hear calls to curtail citizens' rights because of the threat. We will hear "this event changes our ideas about how free a free society can be."

Wrong. Now is the time to *defend* a free society, not destroy it in fear. Now is the time to *protect our civilization*, not to collapse it because of acts of war. Just think what would have happened if 5-6 american citizens had citizen carry on the plane. Yes Armed marshals is one possible solution however, 42 states have Citizens carry whom are the safest group in the nation regarding crime and firearm ownership.

Now is the time, not to disarm ourselves and resign to government protection, but to arm Americans against terrorist attacks. More Americans have to take active part in defending our nation, our communities, our families, ourselves.

America must again become the nation with whom no one tangles -- because our citizens are armed and determined to fight aggression to the death.

Terrorists must learn: Americans don't get terrorized Americans get prepared to fight back.

As America continues to reel from the catastrophic events of 9/11, we need to rethink a few things:

It’s probably time to train and ARM the cockpit crews of US carriers who agree to the program. Pilots and FOs who do not want the responsibility can be exempted. It was, after all, the folks controlling the aircraft who were the targets on Terrible Tuesday.

During the rash of hijackings of a few decades ago, the feds put armed “AIR MARSHALS” on many flights. While some correctly argued that a fuselage punctured by a bullet at 35,000 feet MIGHT – repeat MIGHT bring the plane down – hijackings fell off.

One thing we know for sure about the four craft hijacked on 9/11: They ALL CAME DOWN and THEY ALL DIED!!

And to those who will inevitably – and stupidly – argue that pilots and FOs just cannot be trusted with the decision about when it’s time to pull a trigger, better tell the up to 400 folks sitting in the back that the guys up front are judgment-impaired!

Personally, I’d prefer to take my chances with a rapid decompression than watch some madman take MY flight into a building or the ground at 500 mph. That was the final experience of 266 fellow humans on 9/11. I KNOW I – like they – won’t survive that!

It’s again the old, old story: There aren’t TOO many weapons out there. It’s that the touchy-feely, warm-fuzzy PC crowd now sees to it that ONLY THE WRONG PEOPLE HAVE THEM!

********

It’s almost a certainty that our reprisal for Terrible Tuesday will be to return portions of the middle east to sand dunes. While I’m not saying that such action is NOT fully justified, we’d better be prepared for the list of “Those Who Hate America” to lengthen. For every madman we take out, there will be a dozen in line behind him ready to take his place. That means there will certainly be MORE such attacks HERE!

Which brings me to say that if the NJ/NY Ports Authority rebuilds the WTC on the same scale as the one now spread over much of Manhattan, the new design should incorporate large BULLSEYES on the sides.

I’ve spent my career designing steel structures and told my son before the SECOND plane hit the second tower that the FIRST building was “toast.” There was NO WAY those heat weakened columns would hold. And when the second plane hit the second tower, taking out the columns on one side, I knew IT was history. I cried as the second tower struck crumpled in the direction of the sliced columns and, shortly after, the upper 20 floors of the first tower pan-caked into the lower 90 after THOSE columns buckled.

I’m not some anti-techno Luddite: Even BEFORE the events of 9/11, I was growing weary of watching bodies fall from burning high-rise buildings as rescue workers stood helplessly in the street below, poised to clean up the carnage. I wonder how many high-rise dwellers are today looking for farms in Kansas?

The evidence is growing that we need to seriously rethink our compulsion to concentrate populations in taller and taller, easy-to-hit targets which are also built to be efficient chimneys.

The loss of life in the WTC will be staggering. Compare that number to the final body count at the Pentagon. Then think about the differences in those two buildings.

I rest my case!

Why not establish a training and certification program for police officers so when they fly they can deterr or stop a hijacking. Make subsonic frangible ammo available to them. Set up a procedure so that the flight crew knows who they are and where they are seated. Brief those involved on each others presence so that mistakes aren't made.

If the nationwide carry law is passed, set up a similar program for civilians involving a background investigation, pyschological testing, training and certification.

Ever hear of air rage?
Ever seen the effects of mixing alcohol and guns?
Ever experience a claustraphobia attack?
Ever sat on a tarmac for two hours?
Ever seen the terror of passengers on a plane that is experiencing problems?

I would prefer to return to having plainclothes armed security agents on flights.

No. Sleeper Tango can get same unconstitutional revenue based CHL that I can. I'm against anything other than El Al SOP of Air Marshals with frangable ammo and the time and duckets to practice 6 days a week on right eye left eye shots.

We/I don't need a rapid decompression at 20K Feet because some one forgot to carry a glaser safety slug or frangable ammo and punched a hole in the AC.

Just My opinion of course. Stay Safe.

Ever since the first hijacking, i've maintained that every passenger should be issued a gun and there would be no more hijackings.

We could do away with almost all of the ineffective airport security if:

We placed air marshals on all airplanes, allowed LEO's to carry aboard as well as CCW holders and any side-arm qualified military personnel.

Safety will never be accomplished by scanning luggage, asking stupid questions, or metal detectors.

Allow the passengers who are qualified as well as the air marshalls to protect the plane and you can do away with all the other crap!

And reduce delays and give us back the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Of course, that is probably too much to ask of a citizenry who have no courage to provide for their own defense and to take the responsibility for their own preservation.

I agree. People are reacting too pointedly on a particular terrorist act. We're a nation without walls. We'll go chasing our tails for the next 20 years in response to these 'new' regulations.

NPR announced this evening new regs in effect for all airports and airlines,...no sharp objects or cutting utensils will be allowed on board the aircraft. So the one pocket knife I have or a John Wayne has to come off the keychain, get rid of those deadly nail clippers,...after all we have to sacrifice liberties for more security,...(not).

The proposal of more regulation needs to be targeted as the enemy of the nation instead of the lust for action.

IMHO, the DNC party players have studied Che Gueverra and Revolutionary Tactics. THey appear to understand terrorism and are playing right into the hands of terrorists to destroy public confidence in any conservative establishment. They're milking this for either as many regulations as they can foment or they're advocating trigger happy military responses to cast foreign powers against conventional US power structures.

IMHO, a quick resolve identification of the perpetrators is sufficient, then back to business. Use the politics to beef up intel databases to read dynamic overseas events, but avoid a myopia on a 10-100 person operation other than to link to bigger players.

Sky Marshals are the answer. We could actually relax security at airports with them on board and have substantially safer air travel than we have now.

Here is My Letter of Recommendation on this matter, which I sent to numerous officials today:

12-September-2001

Dear Mr. President,

I continue to hear on the Media News Casts about the need for heightened security on all of our Air Flights. Some News Commentators, including former LtCol. Oliver North, are now pointing out their "Leather-Master" Utility Tools as dangerous weapons which could actually have been tragically used on the un-armed victims. I have even heard recommendations that we should have Air Marshalls on all flights just as the Israeli Airlines, El-AL, has done for years.

I, on the other hand as a previous Frequent Flier, would like to propose what I believe is a much simpler, lower cost, and less time consuming safety program, using existing technology and rather low cost equipment for maximum safety and least disruption for us as travelers.

AIR SAFETY 2001:
----------------

1) Install Secure Lockable STRONG, Bullet Proof Doors to the Cockpits on all FAA approved planes.

2) Install multiple Camera Monitors (Such as are routinely used in Supermarkets for monitoring children in the Store's Kinder-care centers while mommy shops!) throughout the Cabin compartment with leads to the Cockpit Monitors and with the capability of broadcasting digital signals externally to the FAA whenever the Pilot deems it to be a necessary.

3) Install keyed Controls in the cockpit to instantly introduce a Sleep Inducing "Happy" Gas into the Cabin's Oxygen Supply if necessary to terminate/control such a Hijacking situation without killing us, the passengers.

4) Emergency landing procedures to get the plane on the ground safely and quickly so that the sleeping passengers could all be safely removed in handcuffs until such time as they could be revived and either discharged or arrested within 30 minutes maximum after the Flight Crew is capable of making statements, depending on the contents of the instantly available and already reviewed video and the reports of the flight crew and passengers.

5) Arm the Pilots and applicable Cock-pit personnel with Stun guns or other types of arms which, with reasonably skilled use, can stop or kill perpetrators without risking damage to the aircraft or the safety of the non-violent passengers.

6) and finally, a full Safety Instruction Tape to explain to us, the passengers why this is being done to make it be safe for us to fly and for America to avoid a repeat of this terrible tragedy. Anyone not willing to risk the possibility of such a procedure could elect to use other means of transportation.

Thank you for your Strong and Effective Leadership at this challenging time.

Awaiting your response. Meanwhile, I will be driving.

Sincerely yours,

RamS

I have carried in some manner for almost 40 years and respect all's right to carry or not yet I have also been subject to rapid decompression in an AC at altitude and I just don't see a whole lot of folks carrying frangable ammo so as not to cause such an event while protecting them selves.

It's not a second amendment issue IMHO it's a do we let people strike a match during a gas spill issue. Stay Safe ....

>I have also been subject to rapid decompression in an AC at altitude<

So have I as well as walking away from three airplane crashes. While I don't recommend either rapid decompression or an airplane crash as a experience to be enjoyed, the alternatives proposed by the government won't solve the problem either.

It will make flying more time-consuming and continue to erode our Constitutional freedoms.

These new regulations are to show the public that something is being done and since they don't have a clue about anything, they will probably believe that it is in their best interest.

Unfortunately, it won't make a difference to a determined hijacker but will inconvenience the traveling public a great deal.

There are means of assuring our safety using ordinary low cost, readily available technologies without giving up more of our liberties.

Reference my earlier post on this topic.

My suggestions are simple. Air Marshals. Nothing changes except two (minimum) less seats to sell to the public.

Stay Safe.

I agree. CCW on flights is tempting to support, but many people don't understand the "decompression issue" at 20K feet.

Perhaps special civilian training for special airline carry?

>>While some correctly argued that a fuselage punctured by a bullet at 35,000 feet MIGHT – repeat MIGHT bring the plane down – hijackings fell off.<<

They carried special handloads that diminished the possibility of penetrating the aircraft,PLUS they were all SUPPOSED to be exeprienced shooters who had the judgement to know WHEN to shoot, and who wouldn't miss when they did shoot.

Rumor had it back then that the Sky Marshall program was the inspiration behind Charter Arms building their 44 Special "Bulldog" that only weighed about 19 ounces. Something like a handloaded low-pressure 44 Special or 45 ACP would be ideal for something like this, although I also like my 38 Special 146gr swaged HBWC's loaded backwards over moderate loads of Unique.
