Gary Condit Not Mentioned Yesterday
Me | September 12, 2001 | lonestar

Posted on 09/12/2001 9:04:26 AM PDT by lonestar

It struct me late last night that Gary Condit's name was not mentioned all day yesterday. Rightfully so. But I imagine he is thinking that if this had happened in mid-May, he would still be a nobody, with a hidden adulterous private life, getting ready for re-election.

Now we know; it just doesn't seem as important anymore.

Ditto. I'll bet he is the most relieved man in America today.

Condit is exactly relevant today for the same reason he was relevant last week - he is a weak link in our national security fence - the fence that failed.

How could any American have retained faith in the intelligence community after learning about the grossly clandestine and risky behavior of Congressman Gary Condit who sits on the Permanent House Intelligence Committee - and who remains on the committee even after the public exposure of his disregard for national security?
I am watching Congress in session now and cannot be impressed with their so-called seriousness and bi-partisan resolve following the attacks yesterday. They were out to lunch about national security the day before - not a whit of resolve to clean their own house of weakness, incompetence and vulnerability. Condit represents them ALL as long as he remains on Capitol Hill. The failure of the intelligence community is the failure of Congress.

I had a dream yesterday, before all hell broke loose, that Condit was shot, summarily exectuted by a terrorist. I woke my husband to tell him about it.

There was a name that went with the terrorist, only it was king of hard to make out, like someone was talking to me through water. (The struggle to hear the name eventually made me wake up). It was:

First a "ta" sound, then "Ta lefty" "Tomma" - "tom lefty" "Tomma-lefty-Joe-Biden"

In the dream, I said to myself "this is much worse than COndit's crime" and woke up with a start.

Until the tower news broke I half expected COndit to turn up dead that day. Instead, Ozama Bin ladin had killed Americans, and the Condit symbolism seemed apt.

Collectively, whether literally or figuratively, high-fives were no doubt exchanged among Condit family and staff with the events of yesterday. Many Americans, including a lot of FReepers, were probably happy to see Gary Condit (D-CA) no longer in the news or in posts here on FreeRepublic.com.

That being stated, rest assured that the weekly protests will continue in front of Condit's Modesto office. Now, more than ever, Condit's removal from the House Select Intelligence Committee, whether by resignation or removal by House leadership is imperative to protect our national security.

Persons with integrity, honesty and high character should be the only ones serving on that committee, especiallly in this time of national crisis. Gary Condit fails in all three categories.

We will continue to protest on a weekly basis until he resigns or is removed by the necessary 2/3 majority of the House membership. He has proven himself to be unworthy of the trust place in him to serve as a representative of the 18th Congressional District of California. We will continue to keep his name before the citizens of this district and here on FreeRepublic.com!

Well, Gary Condit is on the intelligence committee of the House. With sharp folks like him on the committee, I have no fear about the state of our intelligence efforts.

re; Now we know; it just doesn't seem as important anymore.

I view it more like, our attention has changed. The importance of the Levy Condit drama is just as important as it was yesterday, today and forever.

Seems to me he was mentioned today, lonestar ... as a matter of fact, several times. Perhaps not by name, but the Secretary of Defense issued a strong statement regarding the "careless" treatment of classified information by anyone ... in government or out. My first thought was "Condit" ...

I hear that Osama Bin Laden has passed a privately administered lie detector test and the DC Police are saying he is not a suspect.

He has hired Mark Geragos as his lawyer.

Right on, Diver Dave! I called condidit's Modesto office and asked if they were still proud of their boss who sits on the Intelligence Committee in light of what has happened. She started screaming at me about how I should be ashamed of myself. I screamed right back and she hung up on me. Freepers - Let's keep up the pressure! For victory & freedom!!!
