Bush not asking for Declaration of War
President George W. Bush
Posted on 09/12/2001 8:04:51 AM PDT by Heisenburger
We all just saw Bush on TV talking about investigating this tragedy and generally pussy-footing around the issue. What Bush is forgetting is that we are sure of who has done this, and there is no reason anymore for investigations. If Bush will not ask Congress for a Declaration of War against Afghanistan, I say Congress should force his hand by passing such a declaration immediately.

I like Bush. I supported him and voted for him in the election. I have his bumper sticker on my car. I donated money to his campaign. I even met him very briefly in October, but if he's going to be a pussy about this, then someone else has got to step up.

He did not pussy foot at all.
He said it was an act of war. He did not minimize it to a small group being responsible. Made specific mention, again, to them thinking they have safe harbors, but that will not be the case forever.
He is taking the steps to prepare us for a long, brutal, but decisive fight.
To: Heisenburger
He mentioned being that much closer to knowing who is responsible. Once that is nailed down, we will see action. However, if you want to anticipate without knowledge, in order to start the bashing now.....
To: Heisenburger
Er, he asked for funding, called it war and expressed appreciation for congressional unity. A declaration of war is how the authority and funding is provided by congress. I think he was using measured diplomatic words to say the same thing!

I watched Bush and I am happy he is President than someone like you. I voted for Buchanan but Bush I will stand behind. He was calm, cool and the man to have around when the chips are down.

Just a small detail...but who do you declare war against?

we are sure of who has done this I don't think this is correct, yet. I think that we need to be methodical in our collection of clues, THEN, we unleash a fury that makes Hiroshima looks like a picnic.
Remember this is only a little over 24 hrs. after this tragedy occurred. I don't think that you should be started to question W's resolve, yet.
In a week, if nothing has happened, then I will join the chorus, but, until then, just chill out.

I have a sneaking suspicion he would mean all Arabs. He has a hidden agenda.

And what qualifications do you have to preach on National security issues? No one outside of the inner circle knows exactly what is at stake at this moment. Just suppose that the terrorists have sent a message to D.C. claiming that they have a small tactical nuke stashed away in some major metropolitan area here in the U.S. and have stated their intention to detonate if there are any reprisals? I prefer to accept the judgement of those in charge who have the information necessary to make the tough decisions.

"Just a small detail...but who do you declare war against?" A question well worth repeating.
Once answered, it will be time to take decisive action.

You declare war against all known terrorist organizations. And you name them by name. And you announce that you will have no regard for the borders or governments of the countries that house them, and refuse to turn them over.

Basically, I agree with you. I supported him, gave him money, voted for him, more than once, and I want to give him some time (24 more hrs?) to work out a response. However, if that response doesn't include A LOT of death and destruction for terrorists, and the countries that support them, up to and including FULL SCALE WAR, (EVERYTHING MEANS EVERYTHING), I will lose a lot of respect for him, and find it difficult to support him in the future.
To: Heisenburger
Would you rather he had pounded on the table shouting "Nuke 'em, nuke 'em". You're forgetting the adults are back in charge. This is not as easy as a sovereign nation directly attacking us. We need to sort out the bad guys and then unleash hell. It may take some time to get them all, but I would bet Bush and Co. are planning it.
To: Heisenburger
GW didn't pussy foot around. He doesn't need to say a lot. I am sure the actions he takes will say enough.

Wonder how you saw a DIFFERENT speech than most of us.
To: 2banana
Osama bin Ladin, his terrorist organization and any counrty that supports them. I.e., Afghanistan, Sudan and Iran. ALL OF THE ABOVE. Total war, no quarter given.

I think Bush said the right thing...
We can't declare war untill we have 100% proof of who did this.
He called it an act of war, I think he will declare war when we have the 100% proof.

To: A+Bert
Oh look, A+, the Arab terrorist sycophant accuses someone else of a hidden agenda.
