PA threatens to kill news workers if broadcast photos of celebrating Palestinians
IMRA ^ | 9/12/01 | Aaron Lerner

Israel Radio correspondent Danny Zaken reported on the noon news program
that while hundreds of Palestinians went out to the streets in many cities
in Judea and Samaria (but not Gaza) to celebrate the attacks against the
United States - distributing candy, waving flags, honking horns and shooting
in the air in joy, coverage by the foreign news was typically limited to
east Jerusalem.

According to Zaken, at least two news organizations, a large news agency and
a foreign TV network, had footage of the celebrations in Nablus and Ramallah
that included Palestinian policemen shooting in the air in joy within a
crowd of hundreds.

They declined, Zaken reports, to broadcast the material after senior
officials in the Palestinian Authority - including PA ministers who are
frequently interviewed by the media - contacted the heads of the news
organizations, threatening the lives of the cameramen and stringers in the
field and that if they broadcast the reports that they would not be allowed
to cover events within the Authority in the future.

The news agencies declined to comment to Israel Radio.

Unsurprising of the PA. Israel should take them out while they have the opportunity and blessings of the US.

I love the smell of fear in the morning.

I saw video footage of Arafat condemning the attack. He was literally shaking and trembling. Normally he looks so smug and self assured. Not this time.

Obviously he was seeing his dreams of a Palestinian state go up in smoke, and possibly his own life.

I was talking to my brother who works on Wall Street (Literally) and saw the whole the whole thing. He quoted a friend saying "The Palestinian State died yesterday."

It is not suprising that these cowards would celebrate any evil that befalls the U.S. considering what their leaders have told them about us for the last 40 years. Now these same leaders make public announcements about how sorry they feel for us. Which of these two policies are theirs, and which is to save face? I might not be real educated but I think I can figure this out.

Prediction: Arafat dead within a week by his own people. He's outlived his usefulness and can only be a burden to the new leader of the terrorist world, Osama Bin Laden.

First of all... LOL. Now was it my imagination, or did I see him [this morning] speaking English, in a high-pitched quivering voice??? I had only been awake a few moments at the time and wasn't sure that I was seeing what I was seeing. Normally we see snippets from his rants and speeches via an interpreter. This looked more like an 'on the street' interview.

He was literally shaking and trembling.

Um, he has "tremors". He has a medical condition which causes it. I believe it is Parkinsons disease.

He has had tremors for YEARS. So don't "read" anything into that aspect of what you saw.

What I did notice, was that the man over HIS left shoulder was constantly whispering in his left ear telling him what to say.

Hillary will be so disapointed. Pictures of Hillary giving aid and comfort to the enemy should be plastered ALL OVER New York!!

And so it did. I was amazed to read the reaction of a couple of FR posters yesterday - "now maybe we'll reassess our support of Israel" - weird reaction, IMHO. I don't recall reading of anyone saying "now maybe we won't be so mean to the Japanese" after Pearl Harbor. It may not, even probably not, have been done by Palestinians, but it was probably done on their behalf, or at least in the name of their cause. Arafat's sweating bullets because he knows perfectly well that we're looking for a visible target for retaliation, and he's the most visible one around.

Arafat is a pussy cat compared to Bin Laden. I hope we publically fry Osama's a$$.

Yep, he was speaking English, sort of. He gave a statement in Arabic that was translated, and then at the end of it he looked straight into the camera and said "God bless you...God bless you...God bless you."

I guess the poor ruthless terrorist is a little nervous in the looming shadow of the US because to me he truly looked frightened, and I'm well aware of his Parkinsons tremors. I have seen shots and footage of him dozens of times, and this was a cornered rabbit face, it seemed to me. Maybe I saw what I wanted to see but regardless, it made me smile in appreciation of his possible discomfort.

Does New York still use the electric chair? If so, perhaps he should be tried under New York rather than Federal law.

The Republican Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee (last name Goss, first name Porter?) made exactly the same point, about reassessing our policy toward Israel yesterday as part of a blanket reassessment of "everything." There's a lot of chest thumping today, but these animals can obviously make us pay a heavy price (this whole thing is owing to a few razor blades and cans of mace). Are they already in place for the next round of something we can't even imagine today? I'm wondering whether we will have the determination to endure further attacks and probably a deep recession as a result out of loyalty to Israel, which has only learned over the past 50 years that with these swine it's never over.

I don't know anything about this Israeli radio correspondent, but this is hearsay evidence at best.

I doubt it. I think this was done on behalf of the cause of Islamic fundamentalism, something which is completely unrelated to the Palestinian cause. Actually, it's far more dangerous to us.

The palies are quite brave - when fighting women, children, and unarmed journalists. Perhaps they should have a chance to demonstrate their strength against an aroused, angry America.

Never forget - ever.
