Rumsfeld Was In Touch With His Feelings
TV

Toward the end of his first post-bombing press conference, a reporter (obviously a 'sensitive' one) asked Secy. Rumsfeld what did he 'feel' at the time of the bombing.
Rumsfeld answer:
I felt the building shaking and I heard a loud noise.
This is not an exact quote but it should be quite close.

Just to make it clear: I found this to be the wittiest thing spoken by a gov't official yesterday. It should go into any collection of famous 'qoutes'.

Well spotted. It makes a change from the last administration. Clinton's touchy feely approach to bring 'democracy' and 'humanitarianism' to the rest of the world has stoked up all this mess in the first place.

Good for him. I wish more people would respond in such a fashion to manipulative, classic media queries such as "How did that make you feel?".

More stupidity on the "news" last night here in Rochester. Some idiot feild reporter asked a fireman on the scene about "the state of the buildings". The fireman responded "non-existant. gone. "

Rumsfeld told Fox News on Monday night that our military is dangerously underprepared. Other pundits have criticized Rumfeld's ability to direct defense, get "along" with others, etc.
No one should now question his experience, insight, or courage after yesterday.
Bush's team is our A-string. In this type of crisis, I give thanks that go-along, appeasing wimps like William Cohen, Madeleine Albright, etc. are away from the action.
God bless W. and the men and women who assist him.

Didn't CNN report he ran to assist victims? IIRC, he was helping them until his security detail got him to a secure location.

Yes, I heard the CNN report that he immediately ran to the area damaged then was shuttled back to his command post.
The thing that bothers me the most about the press coverage are the unending questions about the NUMBER of injured or dead.

Did anyone else hear the Fox reporter yesterday ask one of the firefighters, early in the day, whether he thought there were "many injuries"? That has to rank up there with the most stupid questions ever asked by a reporter. He should be fired!

That is too much of a coincidence. Doubt if it is accidental!

I heard something like that on the radio yesterday. After a tower had already dropped, the studio idiot asked the field idiot "do you get a sense that there are unjuries?"

Did you see the news conference with Guiliani? SOme idiot reporter, after describing the fleet of heavy equipment lined up and standing by, asked Rudy what the quipment would be used for. These morons get paid for this.

Are you sure this was wit? It sounds to me like he didn't even understand the touchy-feeliness of the question.
Thank God we've got grownups in charge.

Don't know how big the fires are though. Still no more news on it.

CNN showed a somewhat small, thick pillar of black smoke coming out of the financial building earlier.

Are you sure this was wit? He has plausible deniability but I believe he did his best to answer a stupid question without surrendering to the usual cliches ('anger', 'cold rage', etc.) or hurting the reporter's feelings.

Bombing? Was there a bombing yesterday? I thought a few planes slammed into buildings. There were no bombs were there?

I agree VRWC, it's good to know that Adults are in Charge. The one thing we all have to remember,, most of the press is young, and hasn't really 'been to the wall', and has virtually no experience with real tragety. I'm not trying to give the press 'a pass',,, just pointing out that they are basically just kids from down the street who really don't have enough real life experience to be doing what they're doing. When they don't have the intelligence to think of a good question, they ask "Dumb as a Post" questions just to fill airspace.

Another stupid question from a female bubbleheaded reporter of Guiliano yesterday (as reported by another freeper): "Are you concerned about asbestos?"
A real dingbat......
