This Is Only A Test!
By now I'm sure that it's apparent to most (or at least considered) that this first co-ordinated effort, was only a test. However such a task was accomplished minutes and hundreds of miles apart, valuable intell was gathered on both sides. It is sad to think, that in retrospect, these targets may have been chosen simply to gauge a number of factors, from problems with execution [sick irony there], to reflective responses on the part of the US. I'm disgusted to say, this would be my approach, were I to plan such an attack.
The next planes to target us, might carry a very different payload. When our enemy is found, I fully support a termination without predjudice, what ever that might mean, and pray that the President will as well.
I had similar thoughts on this. I find this not to be an act of terrorism, but an act of war.
Terrorism is one target, carefully selected, in order to gain attention. Any of the 4 hijacked planes, alone, could qualify as an act of terrorism. The attention that this group (I'm looking at you, Taliban) was searching for could have been accomplished with one plane to the WTC, or the Pentagon, or Camp David.
I have this feeling that this is just a start of a war that has been planned for a long time. That we will see a "phase II" that may be a series of car bombs and/or human bombs and it seems to be inevitable to me. I don't even want to fathom a 'phase III'.
I don't mean to be so cryptic, but I can't shake the feeling that this is just the beginning of something that could be incredibly ugly with many casualities. That this group, is counting on us to focus our attention on the airliners, so they can target us at what they beleive is another weakness (our sheer number of autos that move freely about in this country ) and to cause more death.
I hate to sound so reactionary, but I am finding myself in the mindset of the necessity of a Middle East that is fully occupies by US troops and troublesome regimes being forcibly removed.
Are any of your kids in the military, General? It's so easy to use mine as cannon fodder, isn't it? Yes, people join the military knowing the dangers but should they be stuck in another quagmire even worse than VietNam? I thought we'd learned that lesson by now.
I am usually a pacifist and believe that the best foreign policy is to not meddle in other's disputes. However, I think we have come to a point where you cannot put the toothpaste back into the tube. We have intervened and pissed off many an Arab and now they have shown us that Americans are easy targets, and for the first time in my life I beleive that if we do not forcibly remove those that are looking to take thier beef with Israel to the American continent we are jeoporidizing our own freedom and suture.

Rebuilding our intelligence forces would do more than thousands of troops ever could.
Your right here also....BUT....if you want to end it....nuke the region/goverment we feel is most responsible for terrorism, and then tell those left that if they want the same keep F%*#ing with us.
We cannot do anything to make them hate us more than they do already....but we can make them FEAR US in a way that only a tactical nuclear weapon can.
Mark it in your book....this is a war for OUR very survival and way of life as we have known it.
The body of a long-haul trucker was found today behind a local service station. Mid 30's apparently shot 3 times in the back of the head. It is not known at this time what he was hauling or where he was headed.
There is a rig (probably fuel or chemical) out there somewhere with a maniac raghead behind the wheel. Any idea where it might end it's trip?

George W Bush has been doing a superb job so far. Based on what I've been reading in the news and here on FR, I don't believe he will let the neo-con, country club hawks push us into such an awful situation. Hearing Gingrich whine that W won't do Israel's dirty work for them brought a smile to my face this morning. If neo-con Newt is pissed, that is good news.
It's almost certain that the terrorists planned to crash into the White House and the Capital Building. They wanted to assassinate Bush, Cheney, and all of Congress.
Had they been successful, we would have been in severe trouble. It's hard to imagine something more dramatic than what they intended.
I'm sure they have other plans in place, and I'm not suggesting that future acts might not be worse than what we experienced on 9/11.
But their attack was not just a trial balloon. It was far more serious than that.

My only concern at this point, is that we punish those that did this in such a way, that others might view any similar acts against us as too costly to bear. As for fighting alongside the Israelis, I personally invite anyone to join US [sic], of course I'm for wholesale slaughter in this matter. If others benifet, why would I object to that? CRUSH OUR ENEMIES! That is why the US should be there, I cannot speak of the agendas of other governments. Others have offered to aid us as well, do you have something specific against the Israelis? As for marching in any protest of US actions, I think you could be premature in your conclusions... Maybe you could find a more liberal forum for that sort of thing?
As far as your hare-brained reference to "liberal forums", I suspect you are all too familiar with their tactics.
