Flag behind President Bush

Question for fellow Frepers: What flag was that behind President Bush - not the Stars and Stripes, but the one with the dark colored field, gold stars, and eagle clutching arrows?

I'm used to seeing Old Glory on both sides - and I'd like to know what flag that was. Thank you.

Is there such a thing as a Presidential flag? I didn't even notice it. Maybe some kind of Armed Forces flag? Got a pic of it?

I'd thought it was the flag of the President. However, I'm not familiar with the black (at least it looked so on the tv here) background. It was this flag and the sparse desk and photos in the background that made me wonder if this wasn't actually filmed at the Oval Office but rather another, far more secure, White House location dressed as the Oval. Under the circumstances I'd fully understand.

I believe that is the President's flag with his seal on it. The arrows are in the left claw and the olive branch in the right claw. I believe I read that Truman made the olive branch on the right so we would try peace first before trying war.

I like that flag . I think it'd be best to see it as a warning perhaps . The eagles head faces towards the Olive branch as if to suggest to anyone who might try something that they better try peace do to the fact in the other hand is a nice big bundle of arrows yet to have names carved into them .

I heard someone on tv comment (I think that's where it was but I'm not sure who or where) that it was interesting to note that the flag was draped in such a way that it was the claw with the arrows that was revealed. I'd like to think that it was a deliberate decision to have it thus displayed!

Until the midpoint in the Truman administration the eagles head faced the arrows. Truman changed the head to face the olive branches to symbolize that we should look for peace not way.

I don't have a TV (on purpose!) and so hadn't seen this picture until now. I saw others talking about the arrows in the eagle's claw last night and was so curious to see for myself. The flag most definitely IS deliberately draped that way.

An oligarchical head of state should have his own flag; sort of like certifying Caesar a deity.

The only trouble with this fantasy is the holder of this office wraps himself in the American flag when he's looking for sheeple votes.

But here we have the stark naked fact of life as his true narcissistic colors fly in our face.

I say we ban any flag from the White House other than the American flag. It's time to burn personal flags of pompous ass pretenders. Screw imperial flags. This is not england, japan or any other system of bigoted braggarts.

The first flag designed uniquely for the President's use was introduced by Navy Department General Order 300 of August 9, 1882. This was in recognition of the Constitutionally-defined role of the President as Commander-in-chief.
Sorry that this doesn't fit neatly with your agenda, but there it is.
