"What Do I Tell The Pilot To Do?" Conservative Barbara Olson in Her Final Moments On The Cell phone To Her Husband, Solicitor General Theodore Olson... Just Before Crashing Into The Pentagon
To: newsperson999
I once had a brief email interchange with Dear Barbara. What a wonderful person. My heart goes out to Ted and her family.

Just when I think I'm out of tears.......

How very sad. If the hijackers only had knives and cardboard cutters, it's too bad the passengers didn't overpower them. Even if you got a few stabs wounds, it'd be better than what happened.

Speculation like yours begs the question, "What if they had the knives to the throats of a couple of 12 year old girls...?"

I'm sure if they'd known what was up, many of them would have. But this is so unprecedented, they must have hoped it was something far less ominous... a couple of losers hoping to get amnesty in the States or a free flight to Canada perhaps.

Aircraft are long overdue on internal video cameras; one fore; one aft; so that the flight deck can see "what's going on back there," and so such a scene, if necessary can be beamed down to the ground.
Also, long overdue, the corridors of airports should have long ago included video cameras, especially of each passenger approved for boarding.
All that said, the little matter of these aircraft (today) being well out of position, should have immediately been raised to the "Scramble Fighters" status and our A.N.G. and / or AFR interceptors going up to at least take a look.
And lastly, I'd like to hear the President state that we will not be asking anybody's permission to get the bad guys --- and especially the bad guys' bankers: the socialists who founded and built the "Nation of Terrorism." What about some "special interest" in the backers, the socialist individuals, "movements," states, and so-called non-states?
Time to develop new beach front property.

1) I don't think you've ever faced someone who is trained at using a knife; 2) I doubt people knew their options were resistance or death. They probably figured their options were death or cooperate and have a long flight to Libya, and then be released after Israel lets some terrorist prisoners out of jail, or something like that... That's the usual hijack scenario...

I think that most people would have no idea what the terrorists planned to do. But you can rest assured that after today, any terrorist with a box cutter will be hijacking at the extreme risk of being ripped to shreds by a bunch of scared and angry passengers.

Maybe aircraft is long overdue for an armed guard per flight, or at least armed pilots and co-pilots. They can carry a special load that stops inside the body.

I just think they had to have something more than knives which is what's being reported because 5-6 men could pull someone down if they only had a knife. Someone told me someplace else they probably told the passengers there was a bomb that would go off if they resisted.

What if they miss the body and depressurize the cabin? I guess that's the risk...

We'll probably never know, but I think there had to be more than the small knives that would make it through metal detectors. At least a threat of something more----but it's interesting Barbara Olson was in a position to tell the pilot what they might do.

A freeper asked Barbara to sign a copy of her book for me. She wrote a very sweet paragraph mentioning FR and how much she appreciated comments I and others made about her. Easiest way to tell a person's character is how they treat people who can't do anything for them. A simple autograph would have been fine. But Barbara wanted to make someone she never met and would never meet feel good and a little special. And she did.
To: FITZ
The pilot was probably in the back of the plane with her by then.

It's just so tragic something could not have been done. The pilot must not have been killed right away, and the passengers must have been able to discuss at least in whispers, it's too bad they couldn't have all overtaken the terrorists, but things were probably happening very fast.

David Schippers did much the same for the Chicago-area FReepers who went to his office to take him the award earlier this year. Very kind, humble man who was grateful to be appreciated.
