WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General John Ashcroft Tuesday asked that anyone with information about Tuesday's terrorist attacks contact the FBI via a Web site — although that site was jammed within seconds of Ashcroft's announcement.The site, www.ifccfbi.gov, is run by the Internet Fraud Complaint Center, which is itself a joint venture of the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center.
That site has received about 10,000 complaints about consumer fraud since its inception last year and was apparently unable to handle the crush of visitors Tuesday evening. Many news Web sites were also slowed or knocked offline shortly after the attacks as Americans searched for information.
An FBI spokeswoman said anyone with information about the attacks could instead use a toll-free phone number the FBI set up after the attacks. That number is 1-866-483-5137.
``Hopefully that site will be up and running again soon,'' spokeswoman Jennifer Loesch said.
