Reported earlier that a woman received a call from her brother (on his cell phone) who was trapped under what he estimated to be about 40 feet of debris.
He was there with two policemen and I thought they said a fireman.
He gave very specific directions as to where they were located.

I just heard this and they did say "cellphones". Which is odd, because cell phones have been out all day (a major cell or whatever you call it went down with the Towers today).
It's just amazing. There may actually be survivors. I never in a million years would have believed it.
Of course, at nine o'clock this morning I wouldn't have believed any of this would happen.

This story has a Pittsburgh twist to it.
There are at least three people trapped under the WTC. One is the brother of someone here in Pittsburgh, the other two are cops. The brother called his brother on his cell phone, who then got him in touch with Allegheny County's police, who then contacted the NYPD.
They do not know if and when they will get to the people.
All of this courtesy of WTAE.

Just got a call from my a good buddy of mine who said his cousin works at the Pentagon and no family member has heard from him since he left for work this morning. I pray he is okay.

I've seen people talking on cells all day. Some were standing waiting for a minute for a satellite to pick up the signal (or whatever), but they seemed to be on most of the day.

I heard the two police officers had been RESCUED. Can anyone confirm?

I walked into a grocery store this morning, in uniform. The lady looked at me and asked, your in the military- do you know what city the Pentagon is in? That is the first I heard of the disaster. I did not comprehend the magnitude because I was thinking what an idiot this woman is.
Bunker's prayers for all impacted.

People still alive in Trade Centre, says mayor
The mayor of New York City says some people are alive in the World Trade Centre.
Rudolph Giuliana said people trapped in the basement had been making mobile phone calls to relatives and the emergency services.
Meanwhile three men have been arrested in a van in New Jersey, initially in connection with Tuesday's explosions.
However, no explosives were found, but they are being questioned by police. No other details are available.
The rescue operation is steadily getting under way, and the City's fire department says there are around 300 firefighters missing, including senior officers.
The police department are said to be looking for more than 78 missing officers.

Go to CSPAN. They have much more detailed news -- from Canada. Yes, at least one man has called from a cell phone.
