F14 buzzes small cessna in Seattle
Eye witness ^ | Sep 14, 2001 | too-taxed

While watching news I heard jet engines. Knowing that all aircraft were grounded, I went outside to hear and then see an F14 buzz a cessna 152/172 flying over North Seattle. Impressive sight, that I never thought that I would see in American airspace.

I'm getting word (through unconfirmed sources) that one of the major bridges down near Bremerton is closed, and that our subs are being deployed... has anyone else in the Seattle area heard this yet? Has it been confirmed???

Write your congressperson. To save money, there's an attempt to ground the F14 in 2006 in spite of the fact that The Pentagon has just signed an extension of the F-14 service life to 2011. They're STILL the best fighter aircraft, with the best firepower that we have.

Yes, this is confirmed. Sub Base Bangor is shut down. Only essential personnel were allowed in after a full car search. All flights of any kind were prohibited over puget sound in the vicinity of the sub routes. Obviously those that know & can confirm may not be able to speak/type. We are flushing our fleets -- the open ocean is the safest places for them to be.

The Seattle Loonies are at it already. There's a supposed prayer vigil at Westlake Center. It's actually a "peace rally" with the speakers "praying" that we don't answer with violence. Even the newscaster couldn't disguise his disgust.

Of course... I was just curious (being ex-SubRon 6) as to whether we were actually doing it or not... glad to hear that we are...

This may also, possibly, explain the F-14 checking out the Cessna...

I agree... this calls for prayer, of course (if you hapen to be the praying type) and it also calls for some good, old-fashioned, old testament style response... but that's just me...

About 5:30PM, two fighter planes passed over my sister's house in Stoughton, MA. Earlier, about 1PM, two fighters took off from Hanscom AFB in Bedford and passed right over my office building.

I took a short walk tonight and it was the first time I remember there not being any aircraft. Usually you can see several passenger planes at any given time in the skies over eastern MA.

#9 - Yes, our church received a call to arms this morning from our Pastor, and as many as could, arrived at noon for a prayer meeting. We were there for 2 hours. My boss shut down her office and we went to the prayer meeting.

I remember a famous line in the movie Tora, Tora, Tora. The Admiral of the Japanese navy stood at the rear of the ship, and he made a very famous statement: "I fear we have only succeeded in awakening a sleeping giant".

Hopefully, this is what happened again - our sleeping giant of a nation has suddenly awakened to the reality of terrorism - and now, perhaps we have an understanding of why you cannot negotiate with these people. Our only response should be swift and devastating. Similar to what Reagan did to Libya!

Saw it too - we all ran out to see it.

Meanwhile some deadheads in Seattle want to "find common ground" with these hideous thugs? Gee, what would that be?

Earlier, about 1PM, two fighters took off from Hanscom AFB in Bedford and passed right over my office building. Fighters from Hanscom? Maybe staged there, as I am pretty sure none are stationed there. We've got just the opposite here in San Antonio. Normally something of an aluminium overcast here, with trainers, T-6, T-37, T-38, and T-41 (737) from Randolph and other nearby training bases plus C-5s and F-16s from the local Reserve and Guard units at Kelly Field/Lackland AFB. The latter two are transition training units for reserve/guard. Today nothing, zip, nada. Nothing coming or going, no transients either, and I'm about 1-2 miles from Kelly/Lackland, and directly under the approach/takeoff flight path, and my apartment is only another 3/4 mile out.

Guess I should have mentioned that San Diego is in a lockdown too. All our subs and big ships have launched - and that was done early afternoon today. Our city, county and federal offices all shut down. Our shopping centers shut down. The downtown area of San Diego looked like a ghost town. Better that, then an opportunity for a terrorist to harm more people.

We were on alert early because all the planes were headed for the West Coast, and for a few mintues, we did not know the location of one of the planes. With our sub base and our carriers, the port was immediately sealed off and only the military ships were allowed to leave the port.

They even shut down Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm.

I called my mother up in Cleveland, Oh today and she said that 2 fighters flew over the golf course she was on today. Seems a plane made an emergency landing up there somewhere (don't know which airport). Personally, I'm glad to see them and hope to see a couple down here in TN. Its a bit comforting.

Hopefully, I fixed the font.
