If the pilots had been armed, or if concealed carry passengers with a proper permit were allowed, this would never have been attempted, let alone happened.

I sympathize with RKBA, but I draw the line on airplanes. Your average permit holder shouldn't be able to carry a gun onto a plane where he/she'd have a captive group of 50-400 people at the potential point of a gun, and the use of a massive, directable bomb at his/her disposal.

If your answer is that some *other* permit holder would draw to counter terrorism, I'd point out that an airplane is not the ideal place for a shootout.

What to do:

1- Keep all weapons out of the cabin, as far as possible
2- Have a trained air marshal service (don't hold your breath, 'cause you'll see one now).

Back when passenger jets were being hijacked on a weekly basis in the early 1980s, a radio talk show host made a very reasonable recommendation: build these airplanes with a ventilation system that will allow the flight crew to seal itself in the cabin and flood the passenger compartment with a non-lethal gas.

Actually, this was his second suggestion. His first (idiotic) idea was to have a trap door mechanism in the aisle of every plane. If a plane is hijacked, a member of the crew could release a hatch while the hijackers are walking up and down the aisles and drop them out of the bottom of the plane at 32,000 feet.

Your average permit holder

Hey, turkey!! If I didn't live in an anti-RKBA state, I WOULD BE an 'average permit holder! So might you--so are you going to hijack a plane because your wife kicked you out of bed? Or because your "god" told you to kill Americans to get to heaven? You think you'd get a permit??

Another way to think of it is: how many crimes did permit-holders commit in the last, oh, say, century? Rarely do I call someone ignorant, but you get the first runner-up prize...
