I expect that every American airport will now look and operate like an Israeli airport. Bear in mind that about 50,000 people work in the World Trade Center and this happened in the middle of an ordinary day of business. Fortunately there was about a one-hour delay between the impacts and the collapse of the towers. A lot of the people in the towers probably got out alive.
At least 250 people died on the aircraft and all Freepers are encouraged to pray for the families of those killed and injured. Relief efforts, particularly donations of blood, deserve our immediate support.
It is possible that the losses at Pearl Harbor will pale in comparison to this unbelievably dastardly attack. Total killed at Pearl Harbor, as I recall, were about 2,000. Over 12 times that many were working in the WTC at the time of the attack.

I'm sure you're correct; I hope so, at any rate.

The planes would not have been under American pilot control as they hit the buildings. You can bet terrorists were flying those sophisticated aircraft so you can bet a nation like libya, Iraq, or Iran is in part if not wholly to blame. The piloting of those aircraft is a major clue.

You are absolutely right! In addition, it is time to STOP even trying to deal with Muslims. I say, kick every one of them out of North America - that means, the US AND Canada. This is what Isreal lives with every day! Policy needs to change NOW> I would like to see the United States strike back with such force that the Palestinians, Libyians, etc. would be fried in their seats. Much like the retaliation after Pearl Harbour. Talk should be OVER> Your praying neighbour, Lynn

The piloting of those aircraft is a major clue I saw you said this on a different thread. Any student pilot could fly an airliner into a building - it takes virtually no training. This is not a reason to suspect another nations involvement.

We don't need to kick Americans out of America, we need to kill the terrorists and the enablers responsible for this cowardly attack on our country.

Your reaction is like that to Pearl Harbor which led to the internment of the Japanese-Americans. We now recognize that that was wrong. I hope we don't make a similar mistake now.

Wherever you all live you better check out your gas prices. Here in OK, prices are going up from 1.55 to 3.00 and I have heard 4.00, the lines at the gas stations are out to the roads. And people don't seem even willing to back up enough to let someone out so the next can go in. We were told there won't be any delivered after today for awhile either. That could be gossip. But the prices are jumping fast, and there are lines as ALL stations here where I am.

From the Associated Press:
Grand total 266 dead on the aircraft.
American Airlines Flight 11: A Boeing 767 en route from Boston to Los Angeles. The plane was carrying 81 passengers, nine flight attendants and two pilots. The location of the crash has not been determined.
American Airlines Flight 77: A Boeing 757 en route from Dulles Airport near Washington to Los Angeles. The plane was carrying 58 passengers, four flight attendants and two pilots. The location of the crash has not been determined.
United Airlines Flight 93: A Boeing 757, crashed southeast of Pittsburgh while en route from Newark, N.J. to San Francisco. The plane was carrying 38 passengers, two pilots and five flight attendants.
United Airlines Flight 175: A Boeing 767. The flight was bound from Boston to Los Angeles. It was carrying 56 passengers, two pilots and seven flight attendants. The airline would not say where the plane crashed.

NBC's Tim Russert is reporting from Washington that there is "unprecedented anger" in response to this attack, but they "don't know where or how to channel it." I anticipate that we will know very soon, and that our response will be devastating.

Capitol Grilling:
Jut got word from a close Intel source. A field office of the FBI was called about this very thing yesterday, including cities - did not take it seriously. The info was being passed on by one who overheard and saw. I can't say which FBI office.

Let me, my dear American friends from FreeRepubublic and actually all Americans to tell you at this day so hard for all of you that my thoughts and prayers are with you. We can disagree, we can exchange sometimes harsh words but THIS IS HORRIBLE. It is even worse than some Hollywood movies and that should say a lot. God Bless free America!

It may not be 4.00 yet but where I am it has gone up .50 in the last half hour. I was in town and filled up and called my daughter by the time she got to town it was .50 higher. I am not trying to start a panic, but prices are going up. As far as shortages, who knows.

Where is China's statement of public sympathy? They haven't said anything yet.

Bad analogy. Japanese Americans sixty years ago were as a group very patriotic; Arab Americans as a group today are not. The latter group supports America's enemies.
