Reactions to Terrorism - September 11, 2001
My thoughts... | 08/11/2001 | DoughtyOne

Dear Friends;

Is there anyone who isn't in near shock at the magnitude of the events that have unfolded this morning?  My heart goes out those who are having to deal with this in the first person.  I would venture to say that we have lost some of our own this morning.  Our prayers should be with them, the other victims and all their families.

It is too early to make major claims about who masterminded this event.  Yes, we have our suspicions.  No we are not entirely sure if Hussein, Bin-Lauden or another group or groups were responsible.  There is always the remote possibility that this was entirely home grown.  These were not international flights.  At a time like this clear thinking is difficult.  We need to react to this by taking many deep breaths, staying as calm as we can and allowing our government to gather intel.  Then, when it is known who did this, we will react in a swift and devistating manner.

There are some things we do know this morning.  I am going to address them.

From what we know, these planes were hijacked within the United States.  There is a reason why organized efforts to control immigration should have been much more orderly and detailed than it has been.  Some of us on this forum have demanded for years that those who come to this nation be "checked out" and never allowed to enter this nation without that orderly process.  Did we have people coming into this nation that were terrorists?  Yes.  Have we seen evidence of that before?  Yes.  A number of years ago the Trade Center buildings themselves were attacked.  Sadly we seemed to have learned nothing since then.  Immigration remained out of control.  Now people on our own soil were of a mind to do what they did, and they did.  We could have deported people known to be sympathetic to terrorism.  We knew who they were.  We failed to act.

For years I and others on this forum have spoken out about our military being whittled away.  Our 18 divisions as of the Gulf War are now 10 divisions headed towards 8..  Our 600 ships are down to 300, some reports state as low as 275 headed towards God knows where.  The excuses for reducing our military were that they weren't needed in this time of peace.  Folks, it doesn't take two hours before that time of peace can be a potential global conflict.

During the next few days and weeks we will be looking outward to determine who masterminded this event.  I would suggest that we take a few moments of that time to look inward.  It is time to take the actions we should have years ago.  Our terrorist prone immigrants need to be orderly repatriated to their home countries.  Our military needs to be strengthened and never abandoned again.

This is not the time to rush to other judgements that would see us do the wrong things.  Actions made in haste are nearly always wrong.  It is time to find out how this happened.  It is time to determine the precise response on the national level, not individually.  It is also time to consider the many reasons why we need to remain ever vigilant with regard to our nation's proceedures and defense.

Be well my friends.  To those of you who may have lost loved ones, you have my deepest sympathy.

I expect that every American airport will now look and operate like an Israeli airport. Bear in mind that about 50,000 people work in the World Trade Center and this happened in the middle of an ordinary day of business. Fortunately there was about a one-hour delay between the impacts and the collapse of the towers. A lot of the people in the towers probably got out alive.

At least 250 people died on the aircraft. A total of two United aircraft and two American Airlines aircraft have crashed, and all Freepers are encouraged to pray for the families of those killed and injured. Relief efforts, particularly donations of blood, deserve our immediate support.

It is possible that the losses at Pearl Harbor will pale in comparison to this unbelievably dastardly attack. Total killed at Pearl Harbor, as I recall, were about 2,000. Over 12 times that many were working in the WTC at the time of the attack.

If just a half dozen determined persons can shut down the United States, then all the more reason the American government should be very selective in tilting with this and that cause just because it means votes and campaign money for the politicians.

We should only tilt for what's in America's national vital self-interests. In that way we can limit the anger wrought against Americans who feel we act unjustly.

Was it surprising that so many congressman and senators who oppose a NMD system for America retired to their safe havens when the kamakazis threatened to appear over the capitol?

Al Martin, a retired US Navy Lt. Commander and former officer in the Office of Naval Intelligence, as well as America’s foremost whistle-blower on government fraud and corruption, and having testified before the congressional Kerry Committee and the Alexander Committee, has testified to "TRAINING OF WOULD-BE TERRORISTS SPONSORED BY THE U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT".

I posted an article in regards to what Al had to say HEREnot long ago.

Interesting reading.

They are...of course already blaming bin Ladin...and talking about war. Get ready for a war.
