Whatever the final death toll eventually turns out to be there is no doubt whatsoever this is the largest act of mass murder recorded in American history. This makes the bombing of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City look like child's play by comparison.

The one in PA was capable of carrying over 300 people. The one crashing into the Pentagon was a 737 (I think) at least according to eyewitnesses.

The World Trade Center complex (the 2 towers and 3 other buildings) hold 70,000 people. At least 50,000 people could be dead at this point. To put this in perspective for everyone, the number of Americans killed in action in Vietnam is about 48,000. I think we should safely say that we are at war now.

Seating capacities of various Boeing airliners:
737: 99 to 189 passengers
747: 416 to 568 passengers
767: 181 to 375 passengers
777: 301 to 550 passengers

Info was taken from the Boeing Co. website. Hope to G*d there were LOTS of empty seats on all aircraft.

With respect....there were at least 18 minutes between the first strike high up on one tower and the second. LOTS of people would have evacuated the buildings during that time and then others lower down would have an hour to get out before the first tower collapsed. The people in danger would have been those in the upper floors of the second strike who did not get out before the second impact and probably could not get past the fires before the collapse (and of course rescue personell in the building)

A 767 can carry 200 or so people. A 747 can carry 400+.
